Going to pop the question. Which one of these?
I've been with my girlfriend for over 6 years now, and it's about time I asked her to marry me.
We've seen all our friends get married, start families etc. and I know she's the one for me. Plus, she has been dropping massive hints that she's sick of waiting - particularly when drunk and at weddings
I've been looking at rings on ebay and have narrowed it down to 2. I'm not definitley going to buy from ebay but the two listed are the style I think she'll like.
Which one? Price isn't really an issue:

My advise is dont do
Its a waste of time, money. It add's grey hairs to your already balding nonce.
Though on the plus side you get to bang the maid of honour & the mother in law
Ps IMHO of course

FP, do you remember the horror stories about white gold? Rhodium plating wears off after a few years, you'll need to get it replated, repeatedly. apples24's wore off after some months ISTR.
..in case you didn't know
PS I prefer the top one, but I'm a bloke

Don't buy a ring without letting her try it on! I had an idea of what I wanted and when I tried it on, I didn't like it.
Also, those ones off Ebay will have loads of flaws in the diamonds and won't be worth the going rate for a good, clear diamond that you could get from a specialist jeweller.
Don't be tight. If you love her, then it'll be worth it

Only a few posts in and already people are misquoting the original post!!
As for styles, you really need to ask your g/f what she fancies.

I'm taking her to Claridges where I'll drop/pop the question.

I prefer the tapered shoulder of the second one, but prefer round diamonds, not square personally
1ct will be huge btw. Go for a smaller higher quality diamond - I got a F grade VVS 1/3 ct for my g/f (now wife) which suited her fingers perfectly (she has long slim fingers)
I know you only asked about the style but I'd like to repeat the comment about white gold, don' do it! Get platinum, looks WAY better than any gold ring (IMO).
Oh, if you are looking to get the most from your money - go to the Jewellery Qtr in Birmingham. I got all the rings from Ellens who won my vote 'cos they DIDN'T try and sell me the engagement ring.

Buy a cheap ring from Argos to ask the question then take her shopping so "She" can pick one out.
Lets face it, it should with any luck be on her finger for the rest of her life so it definatley can't be something she doesn't actually like!

Then my wife is quite small (5'1" and slim build) so a big ring and rock would just look stupid. Go for what suits and get the best you can.

You need to swat up on colour, clarity and cut - and then make sure your certified diamond isn't certified crap .
Why is it that women want a ring anyway - does that mean the bloke can have a nice watch when the happy couple get engaged . Can't coplain though my missus bought me an Omega speedmaster split second chronometer 2 years after we married - oh I love that watch.
Sorry - thread hi-jack.

Bit of helpful info here - sorry it's the first link with useful info in my google search, but covers clarity, cut, carat weight and colour.
