RC Planes
Anyone fly them? mate bought a cheap thing off ASDA for £20. its only made of polystyrene and its not brilliant but for the last 2 nights we've had a laugh with it in the fields near by, Ive always wanted an RC Plane and this has given me a taster enough to really think about it. I think as a novice it'd be stupid to spend more than £100 and get anything petrol as knowing me I'll crash and explode but Ive seen a few electric jobbies, noticably a Parkzone Mustang, 1metre wing span and seems to pack a fair bit of power which should be enough for me.
Also are there any regulations to flying them? i.e. where you can do it? Theres a field near us but theres a couple of pylons running through it, wont get in trouble for that will we or get told off for the noise levels? What about a large retail car park? not going to get in trouble for doing it near roads, potentiolly distracting drivers etc?

I flew competition aerobatics with RC planes for a few years Davegtt and it was great fun. There may be local regulations but it is not difficult to get insurance to cover you very cheaply through the modeller magazines.
Its best to start with a very simple and slow aircraft with slowish control response unti you get the hang of it. A rudder and aileron control aircraft with a small engine is best and if you total it then its not too expensive to repair or replace. Once you have got the hang of that and don't have to think too hard to control it then you can progress to something a bit more sporting and with aileron controls as well.
Try to find a field with as few obstructions as possible. You would never believe how easy it is to hit the only tree in the field
Good luck with it anyway.

Thanks for the advice. might have to pick an RC magazine up at dinner. Going to pop into the model shop too but dont want to buy anything too boring, want a warbird type plane. I'll only go and spend £50 on a cheap plane and be bored of it within a week wanting something bigger and better. I'll see whats in the local shop later

Theyre only really any good when theres no wind at all. slightest of breezes are OK, theyre a little uncontrolable like I say but they definately gave me a taster to get something bigger and better

Yes a high wing one is easy to fly and you need to get it all sorted before you get onto a Warbird type which are much more tricky to fly. Very expensive to go that way believe me.
