Default HiFi,got the bug again!

Please help.I know there are some serious hifi bods on here who may understand this lunacy
I have recently spent time setting up my old turntable properly & it is just sounds lovely.
Of course after listening to my whole vynil collection again I thought,'could it be even better?'
I have a cheap MM cartridge(Goldring 1006) but was thinking of going down the MC cartridge route with a phono amp.
Have been thinking of about 2-3 hundred for a MC cartridge & something like a Trichord Dino or Graham Slee phono amp.

Has anyone moved up that route & is the gain significant.
Help before these dangerous thoughts become unbearable
BTW,have an original(old but never raced or rallyed) Roksan Xerxes with Tabriz arm & Roxsan Candy mkIII amp .

cheers

Stew

Get a £20 CD player from Tesco, it'll sound way better than all that hissy scratchy stuff

Step away from the hi-fi! Put the catalogues down.

Get an ipod or something, only listen to MP3s at 64kbps for a week, then you'll be amazed at how good the stuff you already have sounds!

You might consider an Audio Technica OC9 at around that price. I have used one for awhile now and have been pleased with results ( Used with LP12 and Naim Aro )

Please,OllyK!!! Don't get me started on CD players that will probaby be next.Have an Arcam Alpha 8 so you can see I am upgrading after a good few years.Looks a bit like Antiques RoadShow in my lounge.
Bought the Roksan amp about 6 months ago & that was the start of all this nonsense as it made everything else sound dull & showed up various shortcomings.

'ru,good advice, will try listening to the old battery transistor radio for a while, that a cure me!

pacenote, have heard good things about the OC9.
Do you use a seperate phono amp?

any recommendations welcome.

you should audition a few, try listening to the dynavector mc carts too, very very nice, I use a D17 mk2, and it's stunning.

If you're local, pop in and have a listen.

The output from cartridge goes into a Naim 85 Preamp which has its own moving coil input stage.

I've just aquired a Technics SU-X901 amp. Yep it's as old as a conker tree and isn't the best in sonic perfection, but at least it has just enough oomph (barely though) to make my ears bleed which many modern home Hi-Fi amps seem totally incapeable of

And it supports SPDIF streaming digital audio from my Archos, so no loss or distortion from any pre-amps or buffer amps

Just thought I'd share that with you

Just be careful Legb4rsk if the bug bites - it can damage relationships. Went to get a new amp last year and came away with a Cyrus 8 Vs and the PSX-R power supply . The wife went completely nuts................FOUR HUNDRED POUNDS FOR A FECKING PLUG, FOUR HUNDRED POUNDS....... you get the picture.

Take care, it's dangerous in them hi-fi shops!

PowerJunkie, thats a good idea! Are Arcam ( try saying that after a few) doing the upgrade? Did you go direct to them or through a local dealer?

andyfish,go away , your scaring me.
But you raise a interesting issue ,are there any wimmins
that are into hifi? I've yet to meet one.Is it just a man thing?Possibly the last bastion.

Mikey Ace,might do that as I am only in Surrey, just inside the M25,A22 junction, so it's good for me.
