Angry Black Spot Sat Nav.are they lying???

been on the phone to black spot about my 3rd unit taking too long to find the satelights. i am sometimes waiting for 10-15 minutes or will drive for 5-10 miles before it has located them. i asked if anyone else has the same problem and they said no. they are going to send out an antenna but i cant see it will improve things.

Black spot says they havnt heard of this problem but i think they are lying.
anyone else with the same problem with the RA sat nav?

my sisters tom tom works almost instantly

Mine can sometimes take ages to find a signal, other times its instant - I find that if I unplug it & plug it back in it can help.

i was told to switch it off then on again but i keep breaking my nails cos the switch is almost embedded inside the unit

i find if i have been out and switch it off for a short while it still takes flipping ages if i use it again.
then of course the speed cameras are not picked up when it has no signal

it looks to me like the RA ones still have a lot of crap to sort out before they work properly

i dont seem to be hearing that tomtom have any problems. black spot must know i will buy a different one if i get a refund. they are going to send out an antenna (more junk to have to carry round)but if that doesnt work then i dont think they can offer me anything else other than a refund

They can take quite a while to lock on when on the move (10-15 mins). I find that mine locks on fastest when you have a reasonable clear line of sight of the south (1 minute to lock on ) and stationary

my 520 can take aaaaages to pick up a signal. really annoying, and sometimes when iv just started using it and only gone a few roads it will tell me im going backwards, down a different road or lose the signal again. It seems like it takes 15 minutes to 'warm up'

Sat nav units need to be initialised, and depending on the model, the gps units need to stabilise.... it can take upto 45 minutes to initialise a gps unit when you use it for the first time.... after that it can be anywhere from 30 seconds to a couple of minutes... (thats if its used reguarlyand the unit kept charged)

the additional antenna is so that you can mount it with a better field of view of the sat,s as opposed to the fixed hump on the back..

if your car has a heated front screen, or certain tinted glass then an external antenna is reccomended.

lets face it squarsey your a bit of a luddite when it comes to technology

I use a drive smart unit - threw my old RA in the bin... its old technology now compared to the drive smart.....

www.drive-smart.co.uk

My one only takes 10 secs to get a sat lock - no problems at all.. reliable unit that has free database AND software updates that you do yourself... updates are free for life.... no brainer really!!

and its cheaper than any ra unit!

My RA takes less than a minute to aquire the satelites, one problem im finding is that i have mine hard wired into the scoob, but use the curly wurly wire when i have it in my Micra (and yes i can speed that too) and cos i switch it between the 2 cars the connector goes brittle and the wire breaks inside, now Black spot have replaced this 3 times now, but the other week when i called them yet again she tried to charge me £12.95 after i pointed out that they were replaced free of charge due to this being a fault, she went away for a minute, then when she came back she said no problem will send you one out straight away, and fair play it was here the very next day

I have the NAVMAN ICN630, took around 10 minutes to lock on when I first had it but it now only takes 10-20 seconds and thats looking through a heated front screen as well.

Cheers

I had a similar problem with my Snooper. I sent it back and they exchanged it for a brand new one of a later type completely FOC and by return of post.
