Default School Holidays

My eldest is in her first year at school, my wife has changed her hours to part time term time in order to look after our offspring. So beginning of the year she had to tell work what days and how many hours etc to calculate pay, they then pay her in equal monthly payments.

Letter from school today, they have changed end of term from Tues 25th to Friday 21st Jult. WTF

Looks like 2 days leave for me, right in the middle of an implementation!

Question

Have they said why?
AFAIK, schools can't do this lightly, they HAVE to open for a given number of days per year, (190 for kids, 195 for staff), and the only "floating days" as was, are those two allocated for training, (out of the 5 OVER what the kids do), which don't occur at the beginning of each term, whilst 3 of them MUST by law. (All 1988 Education act).

Alcazar is correct IIRC.

It is the LEA that sets the term dates. The only flexability that schools have is the 5 PD (Professional Development) days. One of which must be take on the first day of the academic school year.......... the other 4 may be taken at the schools convenience throughout the academic year.

The only way that the school could change the end of the school year would be if these had been allocated as PD days and then changed at a later date.

Not the case here, the letter states that and I quote:

"On Monday 24th July pupils and staff do not need to attend school as in error an extra day has been added to the school year"

"The governors haved passed on the teachers, support staff and pupils the 1 day holiday that Swinodn borough council have awarded to their employees. on Tuesday 25th July, the staff will have an 'off site' non-contact day. The pupils will have a home study day"
