Cool DILEMMA.....

here goes....................

i have a puppy that has started to get a few bald patches on her leg and back. she isnt scratching and they dont seem to be itchy, i'm not even sure she is aware of the hair loss.
now here is the dilemma....
i took out pet insurance last week and it states in the policy that no claims can be made for the first two weeks......

should i wait so i can claim any treatment costs back? the pup is very well otherwise.

what would you do

please dont report me to the RSPCA

If the dog is in discomfort, take it to the vets...

If not, wait till the insurance kicks in (keeping on eye on him/her)...

I work in insurance, and specialise in insolvency, forensic investigation and fraud. What do you think my answer will be

Moving on, as owner of a 14 week old cocker pup, why don't you put who is going to pay to one side and think of the welfare of the puppy first - TAKE IT TO A VET AND GET IT EXAMINED (or have it rehomed)

Sara,.. Try bathing it in an 'anti bacterial shampoo... (summit like Vosene) go easy with it .. our Mutt had the same .. normally a 'nervous' thing.. could just be a touch of stress at new surroundings or summit daft like that

Sara - stop feeding it red meat. Give it boiled rice, fish and chicken and put a couple of tablespoons of mazola cooking oil on its food. should be right as rain in 2-3 weeks. If its skin starts getting flakey, you need to get it a course of prednisalone, but I would think that 30-40 would cover a visit to the vet and the drugs

SS...could it be thyroid - our boxer has patches of skin...I think we've been told it could be hormones

Give your dog a small amount of cod liver oil on a daily basis

aww ^^ she beat me too it...

It can be hormonal... but at the age of Paris, it might be something simple... I'd get it checked just in case..

Now if it was your cat that had bald patches and was itching, then that would be far more serious

Personally I doubt it will be prohibitively expensive. Also, it doesn't sound too serious, and puppies are very resilient and will get into all sorts of problems.

You could try to treat it yourself, but the vets bill will probably be in the same ball park as the months premium.

And you've been collared by an Insurance Agent, now, too!

bollox to insurance agents they dont scare me

i dont think she is suffering from stress or lonleness and i feed her on Pedigree chum puppy food so she has a good diet
she hasnt mixed with any other dogs so i know its not something she picked up. i am going to give her another bath in some medicated shampoo and see what happens..then she will visit the vets

ive just been looking at websites and it looks like it is a common problem with my breed of puppy. i know its not exema or mange cos she isnt itchy or anything. it could be loads of stuff that needs treatment

she has pedigree chum puppy food in sachets.she loves it and it doesnt make her fart
