Why Are Kids Shoes So Expensive?
Just bought my 18mth old son his 3rd pair of proper shoes from Clarks (he's now in 5F) and they cost £25 - £28 a pair! (On the basis that he started walking and wearing proper shoes at 11 months, that's £75 quid in seven months).
What I'm interested to know is why they get cheaper as his feet get bigger? Is it a case of charging more because they know they can, as people will always have to buy them?
I remember some recent Tesco's advert (with Ronnie Corbett doing the voiceover) saying that that kids clothes were cheaper than older kids clothes, with the catchphrase as "let's face it, we use less material". Why doesn't the same principle apply to shoes?

I think it is because they know we will pay extra for the percieved benefit of 'proper' shoes. I'm sure you could get shoes from TK Max for a couple of quid, but you wouldn't risk deformed feet when the kids are to young to explain that the shoes aren't comfy

I think it's because they are all Robin Hoods brother
but on a serous note i think it's because they take more skill to make being so small, but perhaps i'm wrong

Also, as in most manufactured products the retailer would put on anywhere in ther region of 200 - 300% mark up.
The same pair of shoes is probably worth £10 to them bought in price from whatever manufacturer they use, and that £10 would be split between materials, labour and profit margin for the manufacturer.
