Default Holiday accomodation in Cornwall recommendations

Ok, we are going to Cornwall for 2 weeks in July and need to sort some accomodation out. We are looking for a week near Padstow (possibly both) and a week elsewhere. We are taking mountain bikes to get around on for some days out etc and need somewhere safe for the scooby to parked. We are trying to avoid hotels and B&B's as they tend not to like you hanging wet kayaking gear over the bath to dry out so self-catering is the way ahead.

We are looking for flat / farmhouse / house / converted barn, anything really, but preferably as cheap as possible, but it still has to be nice (I have a 4* resort type girlfriend), so no tents / caravans / holiday parks etc. Also need to think about the bikes / kayaks being safe overnight.

Anyone have suggestions or recommendations of places they own or friends and rent out, anywhere you've stayed that you would recommend or definitely avoid?

Watergate Bay is very nice but its also very popular. There is a hotel but they also have cottages they rent out. See here http://www.watergatebayhotel.co.uk/

Padstow is a 20/30 minute drive from Watergate Bay its its a beautifull place to stay.

The Lizard peninsula is idyllic. It has its own microclimate - ie sunny.
Beautiful coastline. Good beaches. Pretty villages with pubs of
character.

Their website seems to be down at the moment, so this one gives their
e-mail address and tel. no.

The Pink Cottage is where I spend my summer holidays.

Like the idea, it's worth a thought, but unfortuntely, I like the gf more than the idea.

Thankfully however, she is a veggie so that counts Rick Stein's restaurant out, so there is a saving to be had..

I know you said no caravans but have a look at www.porthbeach.co.uk . It's on the Padstow coast road from Newquay. It's very quiet, is straight on the beech and is very private.
A single track tarmac road leads up to the single line of static caravans and you pull straight in at the side of your van. The statics are totally seperate from the rest of the site and you have plenty of room for hanging out washing, bbq's, bikes and surfing gear.
In Porth Bay there is a very good Restaurant, a pub that serves good food and a cafe for breakfasts and snacks.

Found a pic of my wife walking down past the caravans at the end of last year, gives you an idea of the privacy and security.

Cheers
Lee

St Ive's is a nice place too, can't suggest anywhere to stay though, I went camping.

Personally I like Newquay although it is a bit messy in the evening, doubt your girlfriend will like it.

Watergate bay as already suggested.

I'd avoid Lands End, nothing there really, not bad for a day out but that's it.

I'd agree with that, stay out of Newquay town centre and beach area, it's mainly full of the stag/hen party crowd at night and just like any other coatal town centre in the day.
Much better off a bit further out in Watergate Bay, Porth Beach etc.etc.

Cheers

Just some advice if you go in the summer:

"Slip, slap, slop!"

Nothing to do with applying liberal amounts of sunscreen; it's the noise you make in the bathroom after eating the seafood!

When you referred to installing supplementary bonding I thought you were using creative terminology for not pooing right!!!
