Default Anyone been to the Cook Islands on holiday?

After watching a big of shipwrecked on channel 4 I must say I was impressed. Has anyone been and if so what time of year, how hot was it, what was there to do?

Cheers,
Simon.

was thinking of going this (southern) winter as it's only about a 3 hour flight from here, the local currency is NZ dollars and the language is English.

it's popular with NZ'ers for a mid-winter break 'cos of its closeness and mild climate.

The main destination is Raratonga, the main island and it's been described to me as a place to holiday if you don't want to do much, except relax and un-wind.

Yeah well we loved the maldives so doing nothing is right up our street

Flight time is a bit of a killer from here. Also interested in French Polynesia e.g. Tahiti. Am looking online but cant find that much. Virgin do holidays there but I always find them a bit pricey for what they offer.

Cheers,
Simon

Went to Fiji last August and it was absolutely superb, the place was as you see it in the films. It's where The Blue Lagoon was filmed, in the Yasawas chain of islands to be precise, and I dived off the beach at the actual filming location.

If you're after picture perfect paradise then that's cetainly high on my list. It wasn't too hot and I only saw one night of rain, it's their dry season. I stayed at a place called Oarsmans Bay Lodge the pictures on the website speak volumes.

Yeah Fiji is also on the short list. When you say not that hot you mean in relation to other destinations that are high 30's / low 40's.

Average high in August and September is around the 80F/27C mark. This makes it a little more comfortable, especially when you are in a bure on the beach with a breeze coming off the ocean. If you go at this time of the year it gets very humid and rains a fair amount.

The average highs only change by 7F/3C throughout the year anyway, the main thing being humidity and rain.

Hello

No I haven't, but my wife wanted to go on holiday to the "Thomas Cook Islands" which amused me no end.
