These are Tunisian Tortoises .. they do not hibernate .. the wife loves them, you should have seen her face when she saw the egg!!

I don't know how to hatch it ...... I know that they are little tortoises when they hatch and don't need any parental care.

Hi darren...

Pete, tortoises are rare now. You could sell the baby for lots of money and put a deposit down on your new MX-5

Are you meant to hatch it I don't think its like getting one out the fridge. Only j/k, do you mean like does it need somewhere warm etc.

Have you tried googling about it, might get some info on what happens next so to speak.

Don't the tortoises look after them? I am only guessing, but if nature has got them this far then surely they know what to do with them....?

Don't the tortoises look after them?
I'd imagine the problem is that in the wild they lay their eggs in the ground in a sun baked area. Their natural habitat is probably a lot more sun soaked than Pete's kitchen and the ground is probably easier to dig into than Pete's faux granite lino

I would find out the best way to hatch it and then get an egg incubator if necessary. Even in zoos and wildlife parks they often take the eggs from the nests and hatch them artificially, as the temperature/humidity are rarely the same as what the egg needs. It can be quite critical, some reptile eggs develop into male or female offspring depending on the hatching temperature.
