Just wondering before I install it, if anyone's got any comments worth noting about it.

I'm using Win2k at the moment - which version of XP should I go for ? And should I bother ?

It Looks very nice and is probably quicker than Win2000, especially on the boot up.

My advice would be to check compatabilty of the programs you are running at the moment before you upgrade, I have encountered a few issues.

Cheers BobaFett - I knew your father Jango. He had an insatiable appetite for chocolate bars. He'd look everywhere for them - ah yes, I remember, he was a 'Bounty Hunter'

Anyway, thanks for the info.

I hope I don't go through the same crap as Win2k that needed a specific win2k driver to run my GeForce card back when I was installing it!

LOL.

The Jango comment is very apt!

The Geforce drives for XP are on the NVidia webSite, I have a Geforce 2 GTS and the drivers work fine with it.

The problem i am having is with a Program called Cubase (musical sequencer), XP does give you the option to trick the program into thinking it is on an older OS which is kinda cool.

All in I quite like it, very quick and nice and stable. Shame about the damn product licensing thing.

Yeah, I have Pirate genes as well!!!

I believe that Office Xp and all further MS products will have this windows product activation sh**e. U get 30 days to register, which is nice of them.

Problem is i have 3 PC which I actively use for different projects, and there is no way I am buying 3 copies of XP, so currently I have to decide which one I want XP on, am trying it on each at the moment to test programme compatibility!

I can post results if people are interested.

If you can get a corporate edition of XP then you are laughing as this has no requirement for activation...

Windows 2000 *is* faster than XP. You definitely need the xp detonator drivers for high spec nvidia cards too.

Well I ditched my GeForce for a KyroII (fed up of Nvidia asking for stupid money)

Don't think Kyro II has XP specific drivers.

Will have to stick with Win2k for now - which is mighty stable I must admit.

Only things I have found that don't run on XP are

a) some of the software my company writes
b) some of the SysInternal low level stuff like RegMon and FileMon can blue screen it

Other than that, I like it but haven't done any performance testing on it yet. I would strongly advise you go for Pro over Home BTW as Home doesn't have the Domain Networking stuff or security stuff.....

I'm now up an running with XP Pro and had no problems at all. All hardware was recognised (scanner, printer and internal cards). All works fine as well.

No problems at all, which is kind of worrying

Quadro2 works fine with MS drivers but downloaded Detonator which improves things no end.

I'm with mutant_matt here, crash and burn if I run SysInternals FileMon. I'm using Dell hardware.

Cheers

Do you lot not think that regmon has a nasty memory leak??

I left it running minimized on my pc, watching the registry on a remote machine... checking something to do with lotus notes 5 and came to work in the mornining to find a machine just trying to page every thing out to disk.... Other than that a brilliant program just a bit too much info sometimes...
