Cool Is curling a sport?

Does not seem to involve much sporting activity other than sliding a big lump of rock along slippy ice

How curling can be in the Winter Olympics when they don't include Darts in the Olympics is beyond me.

I completely agree.

Mind you the curlers are not quite as fat as all the fat ones fall over on the ice and cannot get up again and so they just lie there until they are frozen solid and then the Zamboli just sweeps them away.

its more 'sporting' than alot of other sports. dont even need a ref! (apart from for measuring tight calls.)

they call there own infringments.....thats sporting........

although id love to see a disagreement and a punch up on ice!!!

I heard on R5 live the other day one definition of a sport is an activity that you cannot do in your normal footwear

curling can most definately be competitive. i have noticed that several of the local sandwich shops and cafes have been in competition in trying to pass off the stalest sandwich some have distinctly curled edges, thereby proving that it is most definately some form of sporting event.

p.s i am so fed up with cheese sarnies, i have them every day for lunch, have done every day for ten years and its leading me to tears, i think its awful but i dont know who to complain to

Cool

Did any of you clock the American Johnson sisters. Nothing boring about them at all - they're on the left of the photo in case you didn't guess!

TBH, Im not sure the Winter Olympics is a decent idea anyway. To quote somebody else "its just 142 different ways of sliding"

The only things I consider valid are Ski jump, Ski downhill, and Bobsleigh.

Dont forget "And throwing things" The regular Olym. at least have some variation. Gravity and sliding is all that matter in Winter.

Every time the Olypics are on a "new" sport is added. And it just demeans the whole thing. How can Snowboarding be considered an Olympic sport. And I gather BMX or Skateboarding will be in the regular Olympics next time.

Madness.

How exactly is snowboarding different than skiing that makes it not worth the olympics?

Or is it just the type of people that do it shouldn't be allowed to compete in your opinion

Anything that requires a judge to give a mark is not a sport IMO.

Hemmingway went further and said that the only sports were Bull Fighting, Rock Climbing and Motor Racing; anything else was just a game.

I doubt that he would include F1 in its current state in that list though. Maybe bike racing would fit the bill better.

All those sports are a way to judge one person's skill and ability over the others who are competing.

If you dislike watching so much that you have to keep carping about the sports and those who take part, the answer is obvious.

Que?

I always thought that those games were won by scoring the most runs/goals/points. Try as I might, I couldn't see any points scored for artistic merit or musical interpretation at Lansdowne Road last weekend .

I'd say different. Olympics were originally about martial skills. I could accept skiing, for troop movements, and that Biathlon is perfect, but ice dancing???
