24 hour cover, 8 - 8, 2 days followed by 2 nights. I'm a datacentre operator for a financial IT company.

Hate the rolling shifts when its on weekends, but love the paycheque

Lab analyst for a petrochemicals company. Not the world's most exciting job, or what I ideally wanted to do with my chemistry degree, but the up-sides are high pay (for the area), no stress and I only have to work 3 shifts (2 days, 1 night) every 8 days...

I'm in telecoms network management. I got stuck on shifts after a major company shake up. They put a load of people onto 12 hour shifts bascially to force resignations.

Most of us held on for six months and got the redundancy.

I was working two 12 hour days, followed by two twelve hour nights then four days off. The days were the hard part, the nights we spent in the pub and had air mattresses in the meeting rooms! Easiest money I've ever made! Weekends were good as you'd only have to come in for an hour out of the twelve!

Complete calamity by the management!

@rse about on Apple Macs for 3 12hr nights every weekend to ultimately produce printing plates for glossy mags (not those ones ). When I say for 3x 12hr nights, I mean 1 1/2 to 2, as by sunday we're usually all worked up and spend the night watching DVD's, surfing and sleeping.

I used to do 7pm to 7am, so I'd get some food delivered by 8pm, watch a bit of telly, check my stats and jobs for about half an hour, maybe pop to the pub or go for a walk round the block, and aim to be in (or on, rather) my Argos inflatable bed by 11.30 to midnight. Have to be up by 6.15am to quickly run through any issues and be in the car at 6.45am on the way home!

Never a very good nights sleep though, constantly listeining for the phone, especially after I missed a call out and my boss had to get the onsite security guard to wake me up early one Sunday after a few too many on the Saturday night!

Easy, but boring, money!!!

Thumbs up

I'm an IT Operations Analyst (basically a computer operator ) for a large energy company.

Mon - Fri, 0700 - 1500 (Like this shift, feels relatively normal, long weekend after)

Mon - Fri, 2300 - 0700 (Nights are OK, get to chill out, HATE working Friday night though )

Mon - Fri, 1500 - 2300 &
Sat - Sun, 0700 - 1900 one month, 1900 - 0700 the next month (This 7day week is just pure evil)

Mon - Sun, WEEK OFF! (Makes up for it all!)

So add that to my 25 days holiday and I get 18 weeks off a year in exchange for working 13 weekends. Been doing this for 7 years now.

currently on 2-10pm mon-fri. **** shift - night shift was much better, twilight shift kills social life and domestic life

Making something for a large Japanese car manufacturer at the moment, little spangly things that go 'spin' and then move stuff. Not too sure on the details, i just go off the pieces of paper they give me.
