These golden mobile numbers people are selling on ebay, like 07969999999, does anyone know how these people get hold of them on the first place??

There are companies that will sell you the golden numbers....they presumably buy them from the telcos, and add on a premium.
Google golden numbers and you'll find them.......

If you buy a few phones (as a business) off a particular dealer, he too will sort you out if asked.
Lots of PAYG numbers are golden that get through to dealers.

My mum's mobile number is a craker - everyone thinks it is made up or teh number for a chat line , but it is real and was the number she was given about 10 years ago.
All double numbers, including the dialling codes...i.e 07766 338822
It wasn't originally like that as the 1st two digits were "04" before the phone companies had to add another digit.
My number is almost the same as my home and fax number, barring two digits and the dialling code, again pure luck, but easy on the memory

A good friend bought a £5 orange sim card in a corner shop for his girlfriend....then kept it when he saw the number.
0***6543210!!!!
£5!!!
Got the pac code and transferred it to his contract, then bought her another (boring) number. He still has the number to this day.
Some of them sell for silly money on ebay
All the free sim cards I have got from o2, orange and virgin have never really had anything decent number wise
