Default cracked a tooth

dohhh

eating a fecken lindor chocolate that the G/F gave me for valentines day

must be the softest stuff known to mankind

i have not been to the dentist since i left school (10 years i think??)

this means i am not on any dentists list or whatever there called these days
the tooth looks like it has cracked away from a silver filling (its one of the rear upper teeth, not noticeable unless you pry my gob open, it looks like it has just fell of the side of the filling

there is no pain or anything, i religiously brush my teeth twice a day, and do the odd spot of flossing/mouthwash action now and again

should i just leave this unless it gives me problems, or should i be trying to get on a dentists list (don't they que for miles to get on these lists these days??)

or can i just pop into some random cosmetic place and have them sort it out for a few pennies?>?

Go to the dentist now.

Cheaper to get it fixed when it's only just happened than to wait until it starts to hurt 'cos that's when you know it's gonna cost you.

Sticks, £350 is cheap as far as the robbing bástards are concerned.

Whatever, do it now so you aren't caught out when it does possible break away a little more and you start squealing.

It'll be more than 1 visit I'd guess. A daylight robber might be along soon to confirm.

Only a blind dentist hasn't got a Ferrari near me.

yea i was told an examination would be around £16 then they would take it from there.

both places i rang quoted around the same price for an all in job (unless they never told me about the catches, the *******os)

I had the same thing happen. And ignored it. Eventually the filling fell out and the rest of the tooth broke away, I eventually went to the dentist and they had no option but to remove it.

Finally finished getting all the rest sorted. Lots of visits but fillings only so not toooo expensive.

update:::

went to Newcastle's emergency dental hospital today and told them it was uncomfortable.

result.

they patched it up with a temporary filling, gave me a form with loads of numbers on it and told me to ring them to find a nhs dentist that can look after it long term

never cost me anything for today's visit and i was told it should last about 6 months , which should be enough time to have somebody sort it out properly.

so i go away and ring the number for my area to find out it does not work and now the nhs direct phone line takes care of this sort of thing

went back to my old dentist and asked if they took on new NHS patients (and made sure i mentioned that they were my old dentists 10 years ago) and was told there was a waiting list to re join

so i added my name to the waiting list and could not help noticing that i was fooken number 43

i am told that equates to about 6 to 12 months waiting time

price sounds ok to me, i was quoted the same recently.

Get it sorted sooner rather than later, the tooth will only get worse.

My father had quite a bit of dental work needed doing, i forget the figures but it worked out cheaper to pay for flights and a two week holiday in Goa, have work done there, than pay in this coutry.

And before anyone starts, the quality of dental work there is

Hold out until April 1st...

The new price banding for NHS dentists comes in then, there's only 3 bands. You can have the whole lot ripped out and a set of dentures made for £189! (that's the most you'd ever pay on the new scheme)

Temporary fillings should last a hell of a lot longer than 6 months.

its in a weird place !!

like 1 corner of my tooth is missing and bodged over
im surprised it has lasted half a day to be honest, it took him about 2mins flat and he did not really "prep" the tooth

i am not sure on the ins and outs of dentistry, but if you don't prep a car and just slap filler over it ***** nilly, it tends not to last very long

You'll be lucky if it lasts 6 weeks then, let alone 6 months.

after my NHS dentist in my school years butchered me on every visit I was a little nervous going to them from then on... Up until the dentist decided to retire because of back problems.
The new dentist to take over at the same building is private and on my first visit I was greeted to a female 22 (ish) yr old blonde... she was my new dentist
If she wasn't a dentist she could have become a glamour model !!!
Leather sofas, free toothpaste, explanations on the ceiling mounted Plasma what was going to be done, even endoscoped to get a proper view.
With the old dentist sometimes I wondered if they were just filling teeth for the hell of it and pocketing whatever subsidy they get!
The new Babe.. I mean Dental nurse... was THE most gentle person that had had the pleasure of looking into my gnarled gob ! If I didn't know better I'd class it as foreplay

After her bosom nestled on my head for half an hour, I didn't mind paying the £120 odd quid for a filling! PMSL

yes..

£15 and for checkup and you can have a clean and scale

£42 for filling work (and you can have as many as you need for that)

£189 for the rest

I apparently have teflon teeth temporary fillings last about a day, eating soup dislodges them! Hope you have better luck but if you can afford it i would advise going private pretty much everything is covered for around £15 a month
