Can you recommend a Sat Nav system?
I need some user recommendations for a Sat Nav system. It needs to have full UK and Europe coverage, and to be easy enough for a complete numbskull (my Father) to master.
I've looked online and thought of the Tom Tom Go 700, am I heading in the right direction?

I've got a navman 550, which is great. It has an internal hard drive with all of europe pre-installed (and it's got the optional traffic module for free traffic info on the screen - good but a bit of a mess as you need to trail an aerial wire; I'm looking to sort this out in a better way). Tom tom units are also rated highly; I prefer dedicated buttons in addition to the touchscreen.
I got mine from halfrauds online, which was the cheapest just after xmas anyway.

Is that a ring binder, or with staples?
Car fashion gone mad.
I see people with them all the time........on the m1. I bet half of them travel the same road every day. They've turned left off J12 for 13 years!

Tomtom every time.
How you use it has been really thought about as all the functions you need are only a couple of pokes of the screen away. These menus sort of make sense.

Tom Tom is superb. My wife can even use it (you know that joke about the cup holder on the computer - thats my wife that is )
Dunno if I would go for the 700. HDD is built in, so if it dies 13 months down the line the unit is useless. 300 with MOWE on SD card. If SD card dies, £50.00 for a replacement.

To answer those who think a map is what's needed, they don't work if the idiot driver ignores the road signs, because he knows better. With a wife and a sat nav unit urging him to take the correct turn, it might just work...
The Tom Tom looks like a winner, I'll take the concerns about the hdd under advisement.

had the original one, which was ok, then tt3, however it keeps telling me to go through roads whih are blocked up, turning into streets which are no entry.
now got tt5, only used it twice at the mo. so can't quite comment, however the camera detector is loud

TomTom One. Nice and simple, no remote controls, no built in car kit, but faster than the TomTom 300.
I bought one recently for the Marketing Manager at work, so if she can use it without reading the manual, it should be pretty straight forward to use.

Well, up until Dec, I would have said Tomtom too however we have had a few problems with ours and customer services are as much use as a choc teapot.
The screen back-light failed beginning Dec. We took it back to where we bought it as the returns stuff to do yourself was a nightmare. Did all the backups etc. Dixons were wonderful at sorting it for us.
We get the unit back and unbenown to us, it is not the same unit as we sent in. This means that the backups we did were useless and so was our scamera stuff (its locket to the machine id). We had to send it back again and, unless it arrives by Monday am, we will be getting a brand new unit, since it has been 4 weeks since we sent it off.
Basically it sat around in TT warehouse for 2 weeks before it was even booked in for repair (we know, we checked!!). I have sent repeated emails to their site/repair area and still haven't received a satisfactory reply.
