Recent passports..........
The new ones, (that now cost £51 thanks a lot Lying Labour), with a scanned-in photo and signature.
Wouldn't you think, with the level of technology available to them, that the photo could be made to LOOK like the person it depicts?
My wife just got a new one. LOADS of fuss made on the application form about getting the PERFECT passport photo, so we take care, get good ones, and when it comes back from the passport office, what does it look like? Like she's just been dug up
If that's their take on technology, I wouldn't trust them to get ID card, (with biometrics), right at all

New one ?? The current passport design is close to 8 years old !!
You send your pic in, its scanned and then electronically sent to a certain address just outside of Manchester, where its digitally printed, made into a full passport and then sent via post to you.
Most of the bad pic are due to too much light in the scanning process and the fact that the scanners are a design / sourced / specced 8 to 10 years ago !

alcazar, I had this with the new photo-ID driving licence in 1999. Took it in to the local police station (during opening hours) and asked the desk sergeant "Considering this is supposed to be my number one daily form of legal ID in this country, would you say this looks like me?" Answer - "er, no." I don't have a trace of a tan, yet the photo made me look like I was at best Greek, at worst Afghan.
I sent it back and got a better one. With hindsight it was probably the sensible thing to do!

I got a new one in December, was sent to me special delivery requiring a
signature. Instead I just found my passport lying in my letterbox when I got
home from work, didn't think much of that secure service.
