We buy ours along with all our fastenings from a company called industrial fastners Indfast......
Probably £1,000,000 spend a year, with daily deliveries and they fill the bins for us.

Chief ..........It depends on the service you are provided. Its one thing to buy from China but if you have a problem on your line, run out of stock, are supplied the wrong stock, need to change a part its the time China takes to react which could be an issue.
Price is only one very small part IMHO

I've been dealing with China for over 10 years now and as long as your buying is spot on you should be ok, of course if its something that could change at the last minute or you need quick then China is no good.
But the savings are potentionally huge.

I use China for injection mould tooling. It used to look much cheaper than from the UK. However there are hidden costs. When changes are needed, sending materials and people to China to check things, etc etc.
In the end it worked out cheaper to deal with a company just down the road. Parts are delivered daily, we have web cams installed so they can check our stock holding and keep us filled up on a daily or as required basis. They also react much quicker to our special requirements.
Swings and roundabouts I guess.

First of all - how many do you need for the whole job?
How quick do you need them???
can you afford to pay up front and take them in one hit???

The jobs on going so qtys unknown, the first lines being installed now, to increase upto 6 lines over a period of time ( 12000 ties required per line ) per week..
It could be april before first lines ready to go,so need them soon..
So guessing we would want a couple of months worth up front, and the money wouldnt be a problem,if they were to come from china,we would expect to have to pay for there minimum qtys up front..
Cheers
