Default Gas fire coals help..?

Hi all,

Got a black cast iron victorian arch fireplace in my lounge with a gas fire in it.

When it's switched on, the flames are not very tall unless it's on full.
Now not wanting to put it on full all the time, does anyone know the best way to arrange the coals to get the flames to be a bit taller..?

Cheers,
Nige.
