Pet or person ? which would you put first???
Had an incedant occur today, which made me question peoples priorities,
I'll recall the events then you decide.
I dropped my son off at nursary school thismorning, and on my way home i passed a lady looking distressed at the side of the road, and what looked to be a child laid prone in front of her.
I stopped the car pronto, and went back to see if she neded help, which she clearly did, the child was actually a man who had collapsed on the pavement, and was unconsious.
I asked if she had called an ambulance, and she said, and actually was in the process of doing so.
I asked her what had happened, and her answer shocked me.
" i dont know she replied, i was passing, and i saw him collapsed, there was another lady with him but she has gone into the vets opposite. Is that to get help i asked, oh no she replied, its to take her cat to the vet!!!!
I quickly assesed the man, his airway was clear and he was breathing, so i took my coat off, and covered him, and went to asses his injurys. He appeared to be having a minor fit, so knowing what fits are like there was little i could do, apart from reassure him and stop him from trying to get up, when he eventually came round (potential head injury)
I spoke to the other lady who was by now adjusting to the incedant., and she elaborated. The man was carrying the cat for the now departed lady who was now in the vets, and he collapsed, she stopped her car and offered assistance., to which the first lady then said i,ll leave him with you as i have to take the cat to the vet.
The ambulance arived, and they did some basics, but the guy was unresponsive, and still out of it. the second lady then left.
Shortly after the cat lady turned up minus cat, and said to the aE crew who he was and that he had collapsed whilst carrying her cat to the vet. and he had a history of brain scans etc. and sorry she didnt stay with him but she had to get the cat to the vet. FFS if she new his condition why did she leave him. she was trying to give a diagnosis of the poor bloke to the ae crew, but she was way off the mark, as we both remarked we could smell alcohol on him, but she was insistant that he hadnt been drinking.
anyway they got him prepped for the hospital, and i recovered my coat, they thanked me, and the cat woman thanked me also, i bit my tounge..
So what would you have done?? stayed with the bloke and left the cat till later, or left the bloke and taken the cat.
for the record, if it was me, the cat could have waited.

Ok just to play devils advocate (good pun ha !), was the cat in any kind of carry box ? Or was it just been carried in hands as described. In that case I think maybe the thought was to prevent the cat from running in road, possibly getting run over or causing an accident ? Hence remove the problem – ie the cat and get it to a place of safety and then go back and sort the other problem. Maybe she rang for a ambulance while in the vet.
Or she simply prefers the cat to the bloke ?
Richard
ps out of a choice of my pets or my neighbours, it would be bye bye neighbours every time !

If the cat was in a box, I would have dumped it on the ground away from the road and tended to the man. Alternatively, if the cat was 'free' I would stay with the man until another person arrived and I would have then thrown the cat at the vets and rushed backed to stay with the person.
I love animals, but there are times when you have to think, what planet are some of these people on???
