Manchester City Centre
Just moved to Manchster City Centre - I know Manchester well as I work there but I dont really know what the nightlife is like - any suggestions on where to go, best nights out etc?
I like indie / rocky stuff but also into my funky house etc for a good boogie.

seconded, the locks are ok, a bit cliquey perhaps, but ok usually.
Canal St is great insummer, nice atmos, plenty bars etc, theres some reasonable bars on Portland street adjacent too, or at least there was a couple years ago when I was last there...

5th Ave and 42nd Street are pretty good for Indie.
Rock World (Jillys) and Rock Kitchen are decent Rock nights.
For House/Dance i'd recommend Sankeys Soap, 2Risque@North, Twisted Elegance@Ampersand, Plush@Ampersand, The Music Box (a bit more underground), Venus@Club V and maybe some of the bars on Deansgate Locks.
For some cool pre-club bars look out for Living Room, Prohibition, Panacea, Baby Grand, Bedlam, Dry Bar and Kro Bar. Castlefield also has a couple of cool bars.
Also, the Gay Village is a good night out (so I'm told )

clubs. Sankeys, Venus (dunno if it's still called that.), been told ampersand but doesn;t look like my sort of place. all tangoed!

I go into Manchester alot at weekend and agree with everything rik1471 said. 5th ave is great for indie stuff and a great atmosphere but theres only one place to go if you want to dance and that is Venus on a saturday. Goes right through to about 8 sunday morning with the best funky house music in Manchester! Hope you settle in quick and have a great time!

Taxi would be a fair bit. about £25 I'd guess.
Bars to suit I'd head down towards the Corn Exchange. several good bars there playing music you will like. Fudge, Mook, BRB, Normans (more Stone Roses to Lionel Richie ie anything but still pretty good bar).
If you visit Greek street there are a few bars you'd probably like as well. Bit more 'snobbish' up there though. may not like you wearing trainers etc. irrespective of what you look like. Older crowd normally. prohibition, firefly (top of Greek street) etc. Baby Cream is on the next road up.

i thought Landan was meant to be pricey.
Greek St sounds the place for me then.
