Question Arctic Monkeys...Is the hype justified ???

Wife thinks it's the best album ever

It's slowly growing on me but I still think I prefer the Kooks that I bought on the same day

Media seem to agree with my better half.....

What do you think ??

Not just the media, fans are voting with their money, quickest selling album of all time or something like that.... the people buying the music cant be wrong.

Only heard what has been on the radio and I like it, The Arctic Monkeys had a big following before their stuff even hit the radio.

The star that burns twice as bright burns for only half as long

no one will remember them in 5 years

I quite like both singles though

Who? - oh there's a voting option for that.

More manufactured clones with no original ideas.

the album is quite good, but no better than some others out there, certainly not an original sound

As long as they keep the X-factor winner off the top of the charts.

I'm going with yes right now.

I haven't heard their whole album yet, just the 2 songs they released and I like them.

I will make my mind up after March 23rd when I'm going to see them play live at the Paradise club here in Boston.

On a different but related topic

If you could only have ONE album in your car what would it be?

Not necessarily your favourite of all time just the one you like to listen to best in the car.

Mine would be the strokes 2nd album for reptilia when I'm driving fast and 12.51 when I'm in traffic.

As mentioned, the hype has been swallowed well and truly by those that allow it.

I kind of like the first 2 singles in a strange, different kind of way, but would never add to the hype, of any kind, and rush out to buy the album or whatever else the hype related too.

Even so, good luck to anybody that convinces the gullible to line their pockets for whatever length of time.

If you like In Between Dreams then go and buy Brushfire Fairytales

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...864803-4269417

and On and On

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...864803-4269417

(his previous 2 albums) both albums are even better still IMHO

Off to see Jack at the Zenith theatre in Paris on March 6th

If you like Jack then check out Donovan Frankenreiter (his mate)

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...864803-4269417

Currently play in a Scottish Jack Johnson tribute band Jock Johnson....going rather well at the moment.....

PM me if you want to book us for a few laid back sets

they're OK, certainly not brilliant from what I've heard so far. Album isn't as good as I'd hoped

LOL @ the 1984 comment. The line goes "Dancing to electro-pop like a robot from 1984"

I could write a line about headbanging to Deep Purple in 1973, but I wasn't born then either

Si, thanks for the links, I certainly will be checking out some more of Jacks stuff. Very laid back yet upbeat too, I cant help but smile when listening too it.

LOL @ Jock Johnson.... I'd book you for some sets mate but nobody I know like the same type of music as me, Im usually on my own until about a year later when people catch on to what Im listening too then everybody is listening to them whilst Im listening to some new stuff

btw, anyone wanting to listen to a couple of their tracks try

www.myspace.com/arcticmonkeys

Theres a little flash player on the right hand side with 4 tracks from them available. I quite like the Girls Aloud cover they did off Love Machine in the Live Lounge for Jo "Im so famous" Whiley, very much sounding like Elbow IMO

Had the same problem trying to get all my mates who I jam with..into Jack Johnson. I heard him and Donovan when I was in NZ at the end of 2004 and never looked back

Eventually the bassist grasped that he was good and now we're off ... most people are catching on, but it;s Australians and Americans that have really taken a liking to the chap form Hawaii

Other Souther Hemispherians to check out are Alex Lloyd, Peter Murray, Xavier Rudd, Matt Costa (supporting Jack on tour at the moment...but a bit bland)

Cheers

There are lesser know, but better artists out there. In my opinion they're unoriginal and boring. I wouldn't expect them the last very long. If you prefer some groups/artists with real talent, listen to John Mayer, The New Left and Jason Mraz....these are relatively unheard of (over here), but 100 times better than that Jo Wiley hyped tripe!

John Mayer - http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm...endID=32651695

Jason Mraz - http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm...iendID=4818814

The New Left - http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm...endID=12164695

edit: John Mayer has a similarvoice to Jack Johnson's

Jason Mraz

Forgot to mention him...took a while to grow on me, but cheers me up and has a nice unique style. Curbside Prophet, The Remedy and You and I both a few of my favourites

Not too keen on John Mayer, prefer Heavier things to Room for Squares. It's almost as if he could and should be really good, but sadly just narrowly fails to make a good whole album.

I like Jason Mraz aswell.

I don't know how many people have heard of this dude but i quite like his stuff, his name is Ben Lee. His album "awake is the new sleep" is pretty easy to listen to when chilling out.

Glad you like it SiPie,

I fully recommend the full album then In my opinion there are better songs on there "Begin" and "catch my disease" are my 2 fav's
but from a really mellow side I love "whatever it is " and "I'm willing"

First time i've really looked at this my space site, there's some quality stuff on there.
