Question ebay, 8 secs to go and my bid was beaten by a lesser one. what appened?

i bid for something on ebay and put my max bid in at 130.
i went back and was still the highest bidder.
8secs to go, clicked refresh again and when the page loaded it had gone for £112. how does that work? really gutted about it too.

That happened to me once on something I bid for and I complained. The seller actually emailed me and said he would be getting some more stock in and sold it to me privately.

look on my ebay, then bidding. it will show you your maximum bid there, ( just in case you are mistaken on the amount you bid)

Are you sure you bid £130? It honestly doesn't look like it

Yes you were sniped but as said above you cannot be sniped by a lower bid, I dont use sniping software, if its something I want I just snick in within the last 10 mins.

What happens if there's more than one bidder using this software?

Sniping is the key to winning on ebay I'm afraid. Some people frown upon it, but if they put in a higher bid in the first place they wouldn't lose.

Sniping won't help you win with a lower bid though wich I think is what you were saying in your case. You must have made a mistake.....

If two or more people were using the same sniping software I think it will depend on the distance they are from wherever the sniping software company has their servers located. It will all come down to milliseconds likely and I'm sure they will have a disclaimer stating this.

Although on second thoughts that's probably incorrect as all the bids should be held in line and served up from a central location.

Haven't used sniper stuff but wouldn't it just bid up to your maximum?? Problem could be if 2 bidders had same maximum - or have I got wrong end of stick (as is often the case) ?

If multiple people are using snipe software - the one that enters the highest proxy bid will win. If 2 people put in the same proxy bid, the winner will be the first one to bid.

I try and outsnipe snipers. Timing a manual bid to got through with 3-5 secs does the trick.

I can't see what there is to complain about bids at the last few seconds - you'll see bids being made at auciton houses just as the hammer is going down. Its just part of the fun.
Just bid your maximum and if you don't win then chances are the same thing will appear in the future.

Only if you are the highest bidder.

Besides I have client snipe software on my pc and have found setting it to bid 2 seconds before the end always gets through in time, so I'd still beat you

Thumbs up

Even with him sniping, he would have had to have put in a snipe bid of £132 or more if you truly placed a £130 bid. Perhaps you just didn't confirm the £130 bid - that's what it looks like from the auction I'm afraid?

Sorry you missed out on this one - looks like the sort of thing that rarely crops up
Edited - Looks like Coops has found you one already Now go snipe! There are loads on there - just search on "cooper supercharger"!

I sometimes sit there poised in the last few seconds, the sniping bit is what I live for, usually not all that fussed about getting the item !

I recon the seller cancelled your bid as it wasn't selling for the amount he wanted.

He then got a friend to win the auction - so he could re-list with a reserve or hoping to get more money.

Perhaps!

Look in "my ebay" and see what happened to your bid as it's not listed on the auction.
