Blasted cold/flu........
Had this for 5 days now, 24/7 headaches that the best painkillers don't completely shift, temperature up and down like a yo-yo, coughing so much it hurts like fek in the centre of my chest and in my lower back.
Anyone else had similar recently? How long will it last?
Al-cough-zar, (and no, I haven't been to Asia or any chicken farms )

Sorry you have caught it Alcazar, My friend is still coughing after 7 weeks, but his wife got over it in two weeks.
Hope it clears soon anyway, better stick to the medicinal Scotch etc.
He went onto antibiotics and said it certainly has helped.

The common cold is a virus, not a bacteria. Antibiotics won't do anything. This is how we are in a mess with hospital infections. People becoming immune due to freely & wrongly prescribed antibiotics.

My back is killing (this is what Im struggling to put up with though) sat at my desk is no fun at all. Headaches all yesterday, feel fine today though apart from the sore back. Strange.

I've had the usual 'bunged up' feeling, and now my throat feels like it's on fire!
Other halfs granparents had it before Christmas for 3 weeks, went to the Doctor because she thought she was dying it was so bad , and was told it's not 'flu but a virulent bug which is doing the rounds.
Has anyone else had sickness/upset stomach with it??

Ah - the Medical Oracle now speaks
Whatever GP handed them antibiotics should be ashamed - NOT NECESSARILY - depends if there is subsequent basterial infection following the 'cold'
The common cold is a virus, not a bacteria. - TRUE
Antibiotics won't do anything. (for a viral infection) - TRUE
This is how we are in a mess with hospital infections. NOT TRUE - antibiotic resistance is a complex phenomena, and while unnecessary prescribing contributes to resistance, poor hospital hygiene, pt's not completing antibiotic courses also contribute significantly as well as natural evolution of bacteria all contribute.

I hadn't started on the other reasons for hospital acquired infections yet
Anyway, yes, I'll bow out while I'm behind
