Default Derren Brown - The Heist

Did anyone else watch this last night on e4?

I watched the end of it in disbelief! 3 out of 4 took the bait!

The young guy worried me though. Saying 'if you move you're dead, have you got family?'

Thats mad, you can unknowingly be manipulated to do such a thing!

Usual Derren Brown pish. What you don't see is the hypnosis they have undertaken behind the scenes.

Not at all.

...but in the end, all he's looking for is the most suggestible people of the bunch. The newsagent bit was really more peer pressure, but quite amusing all the same....

The Milgram experiment is well known, and well documented. Google it for more on this as it's quite interesting.....

You know a lot though...

Surely they would know that 240v comes out of a plug socket and even that can be fatal... Thickos.

I didn't see the program last night, but from what I've seen of him before, I thought Derren Brown was always very open about his methods - ie. that he is choosing suggestible people and making suggestions knowing how they will react. I thought the whole purpose of his act/shows was to demonstrate how simple suggestion can create remarkable results.

Depends how you look at it. Like some illusionists, they admit there is no "magic" and everything is illusion & explainable, but then at the end, they'll do something which seems unexplainable just to increase the mystique.

Hypnosis, after all, is also just suggestion....think about it.

It's the current that kills you and not voltage, for example stun guns have upto 50,000 volts!!

That's what I meant - I thought he was open about using hypnosis (as you say, just an extreme form of suggestion).
