Default Pensions ?

Any financial experts on here, I am thinking of possibly changing jobs but I need to quantify how much my current package is worth to me, I am current in what I have described as the best pension you can get, the LGSS, Local Government Superannuation Scheme, its a final salary scheme which based on recent news is a rare commodity, even ours has recently had an attack which was fended off but I reckon its only a matter of time until it gets done on average salary.

I need to work out how much I would need to put into a private scheme to match the eventual benefits, I pay about 160 quid a month in, I earn 31 grand or therabouts, so all things equal how much would I need to earn to be 'in profit' from the move ?

Half of me says, bollocks to a pension, earn and extra 5 or 10 grand a year now and have a few more quid !

Default

£3.20 a month

Seriously though, it depends on your age, the type of scheme (60ths/80ths - usually 60ths for LGSS), the benefits of the scheme (6 months full pay 6 months half pay - death in service etc etc), planned retirement age, possible career progression, how many years service you have etc. You really need to spend a couple of hours with an advisor before they can have a chance of working out what it might cost you.
