Default Sun City South Africa

Can anyone Help.

My Boss generally goes to Las Vegas once a year with a couple of friends and they have done for several years.

This year one of them has suggested they go to Sun City in South Africa however a couple are not convinced.

Has anyone been???? is it any good for gambling? can you go off site? is there alot to do?

Thanks for your help

My other half has been a couple of times and by all accounts it is well worth visiting. The restaurant "Carnivore" is the place to eat - unless of course you are a veggie! With dishes like barbequed Impala and Wildebeest You are also equipped with a handy little white flag to raise when you can't eat any more!

Sun city is a strange place - it looks old but its all artificial and pretty much hidden from view of the main road that passes it!

There's a lot of different casinos there and if you like golf, the course also hosts The Million Dollar tournament so the course it quite good. Favourable exchange rates with the rand make it financially cheaper to stay there than Vegas. Its not as big as Vegas though and from what I have seen at SC, I don't think the shops are anywhere near as good as what I have heard of in Vegas.
There's also Pielansburg (can't remember how to spell it) safari park less than 10 mins away by car where you can see the Big five and lots of other animals
You may as well investigate the prices of the Palace hotel, the top one in there. As far as I remember it was only about £100 per night although this was back in 1998!! If you stay at the Palace, you get free entry to the beach area which is quite cool. All the hotels in the complex have their own pools too and again, drinks are pretty cheap too

If you don't smoke, then its good too as it pretty much all non-smoking except for designated areas.
I can't remember how many decent restaurants there are there, one was deffo black tie, pretty much standard BK etc there too.

The Carnivore restaurant is nowhere near Sun city though however WELL worth a visit if you are a total meat-eater!!!!!!!!

Daytrips out to Pilansberg reserve ( which is virtually next door ) for game drives etc too.

We're likely going to incorporate a few days there on our SA trip later in the year...

If you are passing through Jo'berg the Butchers Shop rest in Sandton is very good

AAAAAARRRRRRR......memories memories.....I saw Black Sabbath there in 1986 at the SunCity Superbowl........Bloody fantastic weekend but it was only a casino and hotel then.........bloody big resort now and even better value for money now due to really good exchange rates. Also spent 2 bloody cold nights sleeping in a nissan sunny in the carpark of the Sandton Sun Hotel, another Sol Kerzner owned hotel.
