More PC madness
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/4569006.stm
An Asian officer has complained that using the name "Black Museum" for the Metropolitan Police's famous archive of crime artefacts is racist.
Pc Zahid Malik, from Nottinghamshire Police, said the use of the word black in an article in the police magazine The Sharp End was questionable.
The editor of the publication responded to Pc Malik's letter saying: "There was no intention to offend."
The Crime Museum features gory exhibits from famous cases dating back to 1875.
In his letter, the constable said: "In a piece on the Met's Crime Museum you use the term `Black Museum' for this `notorious police museum' and `the man in black' to accompany a picture of the curator.
We live in times where language/images and motives can easily be misinterpreted and misunderstood.
PC Zahid Malik
"I question the negative use of the word `black' in these contexts."
He added: "I feel we all have an important responsibility to ensure that the language and terminology we use is in a sensitive and appropriate manner.
"We live in times where language/images and motives can easily be misinterpreted and misunderstood."
The Crime Museum, stored at Scotland Yard, has been nicknamed the Black Museum and contains death masks, casts of necks disfigured by rope burns and a collection of nooses hanging from a gallows.
It also has exhibits featuring some of London's most notorious crimes, such as the Jack the Ripper murders.
It is not open to the public, with admission only by invitation to police officers, lawyers and other crime experts.
The phrase "Black Museum" has traditionally referred to its funereal and evil nature, and has nothing to do with the ethnic origin of its exhibits.

its just a word describing a colour, what difference does it make if it is negative or positive in context.

Is Pc Zahid Malik one of the new breed of police determined to further destroy the public's confidence in the police force with his IMHO ludicrious comments, or is he just trying to make a name for himself in order to aid his promtion and the racist card is an easy one for him to play.
Personally I feel that that his judgement and suitabailty to impartially do his job should be called into question. But I'm willing to bet it wont because then that will be calssed as racist as well. Vicious circle !

PC Malik is a tosser who deserves nothing more than a kicking and a deportation to another country (even if he is British and was born here). People like this destroy the very society we have worked hard to develop and such people are pathetic. Total **** - wish he was in Surrey and I'd love the chance to say hello in person and tell him my feelings.

This comutry would benefit greatly if people like PC Mallet emigrated to a country that meets with his exacting standards, perhaps where he or his ancestors were born perhaps.......
If I lived in Asia I wouldn't have a probelm with a white museum, the bloke must have a major attitude problem, but then being a Policeperson that's a given anyway!!!

Malik should be told to wind his neck in, or if he does not like it to find a different job!
The term "Black Museum" has been in use in this country for years before there was even a significant presence of black people in this country and there is no reference whatsoever to ethnic minorities in the expression.
Why the hell should we change our culture just for the sake of the likes of him?

Shock horror!!!! Does PC Malik know there’s a whole region in the midlands that’s name is totally offensive and degrading to our ethnic friends?? Someone had best get in touch with him before civil war breaks out.
