Brothers been caught doing 100mph
Has anybody had any experience of being caught doing exactly 100mph? Is this an instant ban or will he be lucky and get a temporary ban or points and fine?
He was doing 100mph up Whitwell Hill on the A64 towards Malton and a police car sat at the top caught him.

Mine just over 100 on a dual carriageway bit of the A1, 100 quid and 6 points, no previous convictions, light traffic etc etc.

Is it dual carriageway - i.e. 70mph? - if so he shouldn't get banned - 5 ish points and a fine. If it was a 60 mph limit I'd have thought a short ban was likely.

who was that solicitor on Trev McDonal last week who gets all the Man United players and wives off driving offences?

I've been convicted for 100mph on an A road (60mph limit), though a few years ago.
I appeared at court and groveled a lot - but ended up with a 1 month ban, 3 points and £200 fine - oh, and a lecture.
Not bad, as I was actually doing 130.... but it was midnight and the road was completely dry / straight / clear - just this damn police car trying to keep up with me about half a mile behind!

It didn't make a massive amount of difference TBH, they just saw it as an SP30.... It was over 5 years ago now so I don't even mention it (well, it's actually about 15 years ago I guess) so well "spent".
IIRC I had a few "SP30 - 3 points / 60 quid fine? - Oh no, 200 quid, 3 points, 1 month ban... - Oh yes indeedy - do the job properly! You must've been shifting to get that mate.." type conversations with customer service people (OK, young blokes) who worked for Insurance companies when getting quotes for a few years afterwards.

I still remember the quote from the policeman, as I was sat in the front seat of his 3 litre Senator with blue lights still flashing "Oh no sonny, 80 miles an hour, I don't think so.... This is a very fast car and I was driving it to its limits, I was doing well over 100 mph and you were still pulling away from me - I didn't stand a hope of catching you. Whilst following at that speed I was physically scared."
I was tempted to reply with "Poof" but thought better of it.
It took them about 5.9 months ( the limit is 6 months!) to get the summons to me, and I was eager to see what speed they were going to go for. In the end the summons stated "Travelling at 100mph" - when I was expecting at least an "exceeding 100mph", but I guess they have to 'pin' a stated figure that they're comfortable with rather getting into vague guestimates that could be disproved.
In hindsight it was all a fun learning experience. At the time it was a bit of a pain getting lifts to/from work every day for a month (much longer would have been a REAL pain in the neck). Still, I walked down the pub most nights and had a skin-full to make up for it...

As IanE said, www.pepipoo.com is a good start. I have no experience of them, but I pulled these two off a website I visited a few weeks back...
