There are quite a few important things to look for:
1. at least 15 bar pressure (most important!)
2. solenoid activated valve (rather than mechanical)
3. brass head/portafilter - rather than aluminium or steel
In my opinion, and that's why I bought one, the Gaggia Classic is the best that offers all of the above and more.

Cracking piece of kit, that I use every day (working from home one has to have decent coffee). Illy coffee every time as well....

I bought a Breil, it is good, and if you are quick on special offer at certain stores . But i would agree, if you have the budget go for the Gagia, it is the best....

Don't buy a Gaggia Trevi exclusive. Mine cost about £450 and is the most unreliable thing I've ever bought. My mate has one too and it's always breaking down.
After a few months, it went bang big time (sparks and smoke) and was repaired for free.
After 2 years, it started leaking water inside and went bang big time again!
I've now scrapped it and bought an AEG Cafamosa CF250. They're not available in this country, but I got mine on ebay for about £170 delivered.
It's far, far better in every way than the Gaggia and makes better coffee too.
I would never buy another overpriced and unreliable Gaggia.

Hello
Unfortunately, my wife wouldn't appreciate a jar of Maxwell House for Christmas. Always worth a try of course!
I am going to get the Morphy Richards 47507 for £99.

what is it with people, they dump 6 tablespooons of coffee in a pissy little cup add a dash of water and whip it, and rave on about how good it is..
oops all the trendys do it so it must be good
(emperors new clothes???)
blergh, coffee, in a mug, milk and sugar to your preferances, and then you can enjoy it.
just get a good coffee (cart noir) cream and sugar, and thats a good cup of coffee

Well, to be fair my wife likes this kind of coffee and has been on about one of these for years. So it probably isn't a 7 day wonder. Probably more like 10 or 11...
