Attention, Ornithologists.
What's going on with the little pink protuberance on the breast of this falcon?
Sarasquares thought it might have been its ***** We can rule out the possibility of it being a nipple as Aves are non-lactating vertebrates.
What could it be?

Erm, it's all that is left of the yellow, cute, ickle chick it was tearing to pieces before I took the photo. A considerable amount of pink goo burst out of it, as the Saker tore off its head.
I do hope a vegetarian reads this tomorrow over lunch.

It looks like a Tick to me. It's difficult to gauge as their size varies according to their blood harvest, although I'm not too sure of the Avian strain.
Great photo though and a very noble looking bird. There are a few wild ones around where I stay and they go like like Hell in flight.

Has it plucked a midget from his/her hidey-hole and eaten it? It looks like the midget is using his/her midget finger to escape from the hole they have made using their trusty penknife..

It seems odd that the falconer would allow that kind of parasite to persist on his bird, unless it's the done thing to allow them to drop off naturally.
A tick, not a penknife-wielding midget.
