What do people do regarding sharing taxis?

My brother used to say that people getting out should pay whatever the metre said upon getting out - Not nessersarily fair i think!

My way is for whoever is getting out should pay a decent amount of what the fare is on them getting out.

Me going home my way from town costs around 5.20.

If i share with my mate its 4.40 when we get to his and ends up at around 6.50 when i get home.

He gives me 2.30 on getting out leaving me to pay the rest giving reason that im in profit if he gives me more. I explain that if i go home my way its 5.20 and him going alone costs 4.50 and his way cost me around a pound more but hes getting a half price fair home.

So i said 3.00 is fair as ill be paying them same when i get in and we both benefit.

So does this seem fair?

*Disclaimer* Pissed up post but it kind of makes sense in my head! Plus we're talking peanuts but its the principle of sharing!

edit: most times its just a case of someone pays, then someone else pays next time, or just chuck some cash in the pot.
Lifes far too short to squabble about pennies in my honest opinion.

If you are splitting the cost, then you should split the benefit - as a principle.

Between my friends and I, it will be whoever gets his cash out first pays, never debate the cost when only a couple of quid is involved, plus girls never pay.

Normally balances out over time.

As i live the furthest out of town i'm always the last in the taxi!

I just have money given to me, at that stage of the night i couldn't really care how much i'm given i just want to get home and into bed

On the way into Town, its anywhere between £8-£10 depending on which taxi we get. Chap in the passenger seat buys the taxi as the 'first round' (4 of us in the car, same as 4 cheap beers. ish)

On the way back we split evenly (even the lasses) as we all live the same radius distance from town, even if theres some distance between us.

usually when I go out who ever gets out first leaves either a ten or twenty pound note for the taxi irrespective of the cost on the meter. If you have friends who skank about £5.00 then you need new friends
