Default Smoothies

Recently started making my own smoothies, just using a hand blender, not one of those fancy smoothie makers.

Although I like fruit, I find eating it a bit of a chore, but I can't get enough of smoothies.

My first one was a bit of a disaster, bananas (peeled), apples (not peeled) and some orange juice. It was worse than rank. I then tried it again but peeled the apples and it was a bit better, added some milk and it was actually quite nice.

Now I just use 2x bananas, 2x apples and milk, plus a bit of ice, which is lovely.
I've tried adding strawberries too which was nice, but they are a bit expensive (time of year?).
Tried adding kiwi fruit which was gross, but I don't think they were ripe enough.

The most recen distaster was a mango - how the **** are you supposed to cut them up?! I ended up pulling it apart with my hands, all the juice went everywhere and I was just left will lots of pulp which I chucked in. Was a good smoothie though.

Sometimes I treat myself and put some ice cream in, which is my favourite , but only once in a while.

I know I could just buy those Innocent etc. smoothies, but they are more expensive than beer FFS!

So, any other smoothie lovers out there, and what are your secret ingredients?

Hello

My wife makes these things. I personally think they are like liquidised vomit.

She uses frozen blueberries to add a sweet flavour.

Get yourself to Tescos or a rival supermarket and buy a few bits including a bag of frozen fruit- normally strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries etc, follow the smoothie 'receipe' below - tis delish!!

Handful of frozen fruit - I pick out the blackberries coz I hate them!!
2 or 3 ice cubes
1 scoop low fat yoghurt
1 banana sliced
1 scoop of frozen sorbet - any flavour you wish to add - you can
Add Apple juice to obtain preferred consistancy

Blitz and drink!!!

I only use mine in the summer - atm I cheat and go for the mango & passionfruit innocent...

but if you want to make your own still, the innocent packaging tells you what it takes to make each drink i.e

1/2 crushed mango
1 crushed passion fruit
1/2 crushed banana
2 1/2 pressed apples
1/2 freshly squeezed orange

to make my fave so why not give it a whirl yourself..??

I don't think so, I just use a normal hand blender. I've seen the ones with little taps on the bottom but they just look like a bitch to clean!
Currently tucking in to one now - 2 bananas, 3 apples, loads of milk, orange juice, ice and ice cream.

Think I might try some of that frozen fruit for variety, although I like using fresh fruit as it's probably better for you. Alcohol in a smoothie? Now you're talking - someone else try it first though!

Thumbs down

Thought I'd try it myself so just put a couple of shots of vodka in my smoothie, and it was pretty bad tbh. Started off ok but got steadily worse!
Think I'll stick to beer for my alcohol fix

Try adding light rum (white rum) then you essentially have a Daiquiri recipe, goes better just with the one fruit though ie. strawberry daiquiri or banana daquiri.... mmm yum
