I never said I was about to buy an illegal tortoise ..... I will NOT be buying an illegal tortoise!

I am aware that the Russian Horsfield Tortoise doesn't need a CITES Certificate, or - at least, thats the current thinking ............

Also, of course, a 20 year old Tortoise will not have any papers anyway!!

My question remains, for the Vets, do you HAVE to ask for CITES Certificates when you treat a Tortoise? You may not know how old it is, or what type it is (unless a specialist in this area)

I am thinking mainly of Tortoises where the owner cannot look after them anymore and so someone takes them on - the Tortoises would be freely given.

With no papers would vets treat?

Yes Pete, they would. The animal's welfare is what is important! Whether or not they suspect you have bought an illegal tortoise, whether they feel it is an inappropriate pet for someone in their twilight years and whether they report you are different matters!
