Haven't been to either, but from what I've heard from friends of mine I'd say go for Antigua! Heard some pretty dodgy things about Barbados...But as I said I havent been to either so cant really pass comment on what they're like!

I was in St James in Barbados around 7 years ago for a weeks or so and loved it. I was filming out there for a client with some expensive kit and never felt threatened or pressured even late at night when we went to the boatyard nightclub.
I loved the island and people and way/pace of life and ought to go back sometime.
As for Chavvy - had not heard of chavs 7 years ago and did not spot one iota of Burberry.
Local rum can be fun with around 100% proof in the cocktails

So chavvies can afford a 3 grand holiday these days benefits must pay well
They both look nice and ive found prices to be comparable, but not sure of the 'things to do' and scenery of both. Better try and find some online reviews.

Antigua would be my choice, but I am a bit biased having lived there for a while.
Lots of beaches (365+), all of them are able to be accessed by the public, hotels cannot bar entry to the beach, then there's English Harbour/Nelsons dockyard, Shirley Heights, St Johns and lots of great diving obviously.
The St James resort in Anitgua was nice, I used to have a membership there. Plenty of other nice hotels, a few I'd avoid. Just if you planning to sit by the sea with the waves lapping at your feet, get a resort on the West coast. The east coast is the Atlantic, and there the waves pound in and the beaches aren't as nice.

Barbados for me everytime. Ive been there for many years and off again June next year.
Ive done most of the islands and its by far the best and most freindly.
Stay well away from St Lucia .....That was a sh1thole there

Been to both of them and Antigua is certainly a nicer place.
The interior of Barbados could be anyhere, it's nothing special. I was lucky, I stayed at Sandy Lane in St James, which was spectacular, but unless you have money to burn or are very lucky like I was, then you'll have to slum it (well, as much as slumming in the Caribbean can be!).
Antigua just semed to have a nicer atmosphere IMO.
Geezer
