Amp's blown up - recommend me another !
Sadly my Sherwood receiver amp shuffled off it's mortal coil tonight, so I need to replace it ASAP. I need 5.1 channels with approx 100w down each, DTS decoding and any new stuff like DD EX. It needs to be a receiver for the radio and have plenty of inputs for all my sources. Unfortunately I've just forked out a load of dosh for my wedding so my budget is very limited (max. £4-500) so if anyone's bought a new amp lately I'd appreciate your comments. Thanks !

At that sort of price you could easilly be looking at some superb Denon, Pioneer or Yamaha receivers. I have a Pioneer VSX811S that I paid IRO 280 for and it has all the formats you require and is 7.1 not 5.1 Can't remember the power specs, but I have never needed to go above the 28db level, and at that it can shake the pictures off their hooks and seriously p!$$ off the neighbours. I used to have an old ProLogic Yamaha, and I prefered that for its surround treatment of music from CD, but the Pioneers DTS/DD 7.1 separation on movies blows it out of the water.
Richers have the awesome VSX-AX3 for 600, or the Yamaha DSPAX757SE for 400.

Good to keep the street awake, maybe not the sound quality you are used to, but 1000 Watts. I have two of these rack mounted but I tend to use them at venues !!!

Well IMO you cant go wrong with Denon. Denon have more or less cleaned up the awards for AV Recievers from budget to high end in the last few years. I have a 3805 and it's an stunning receiver for under £1000.
The new range of Denon amps are just coming out so the 2805 can be found in your price bracket although the list price is around £600.
For a bit less money the 2106 has just come out and should be priced around £400 but it isn't that much different to the previous 2105 and they can be found for under £300, the 2105 still has all the latest formats including Dolby ProLogic11x and all the 6.1 DD and DTS formats.
I've just bought one for my Dad http://www.petertyson.co.uk/denonavr2105.shtml . It replaces his Sherwood reciever and is a major step up in sound quality. Sherwood used to cheat and quote power figures for only one channel being driven. The 2105 only has 90W per channel but has musical ability and strength far above my Dads old 100W per channel Sherwood.
Check out the models on www.denon.co.uk
Cheers
