Erm.....
Euros for currency.
No duty-free allowed. You can't buy on board, and if you buy when ashore they take it off you & you get it back @ the end of the cruise.
We tipped @ on the last night. All drinks on board get booked to your cabin, so you dont need money on board the ship - only when you go ashore.
Canny mind much about the credit card situation, apart from we had to register one with them before we sailed (weeks in advance) and on the last day before we checked out we were presented with the final bill, which was then removed from our credit card before we disembarked. I dont know how they would work it if you didnt have a credit card.
The ship was very clean, but we regretted going for a 2-week cruise. We should have spent one week in Palma, then went on the cruise the 2nd week.
Food is quite good too - all included in the price and plenty of choice. Full cooked breakfast every morning - buffet, so you can pick as much as you like!!
All the staff appear to phillipinos, but they can speak English fine. There is a bar in the middle of the ship that always has comedians on, it gets VERY busy so you better get down there early.
Any more advice needed, give me a shout.
P.S. - Is it a Med cruise your going on?

Ah! Fair enough on the euros then - i would suggest dollars instead?
I think our total came to about £1100 for the two weeks. That included all the excursions though, which were probably about half that.
I'm pretty confident they do x-ray all the luggage, so not much chance of smuggling a couple of bottles onboard. The drink isnt that expensive on board though - 4 euros for 2 vodka & cokes. (roughly).
If you've not yet booked, i'd seriously consider a stay-and-cruise - stay on land for one week before going on the ship. We found that 2 weeks was just too long.

Cruised on her in the Caribbean in her maiden season-duty free was not taken off us on board. Suspect the reason why it was confiscated was because you were still in the EU? Had similar problems foing Amsterdam/Bruges on Artemis recently.
Cruised on OV when she was Arcadia also. If you sail from Barbados, there are some very nice duty free shops in the cruise terminal. Also if you take the P&O charter flights to Barbados, you step off the plane, onto the coach, and straight to the ship-all the immigration is done at the cruise terminal before you get on board-done that twice now (also did Oriana last year.)
OV is not a bad ship-not the proliferation of old people you tend to get on the normal P&O ships. My advice though? Wait for Ocean Village II (currently the Regal Princess)-bigger ship, more bar choices!
