Road charging

Road charging
Note the "yet to be convinced" line which implies that you WILL be convinced no matter what the means. Also note how it is being tied in with insurance to force people into fitting the spy boxes, soon no satellite tracking will equal no insuance. You may also be interested to note that Norwich Union was running a 2 year spy box insurance pilot, but they have just declared it a success after one year and appear to be on the verge of going live with it. I wonder why?
Drivers still doubtful over pay-per-mile

DRIVERS have yet to be convinced about replacing motoring taxes with pay-as-you drive road charging, the government admitted yesterday.
However, Alistair Darling, the Transport Secretary, said he hoped that privacy fears over the satellite tracking of vehicles could be allayed by using technology already in place.
Ministers plan to cut congestion by charging motorists for their road use, rather than through road tax and fuel duty. Mr Darling told a conference in London: "Although many more people know about the concept than did a year ago, we cannot say that the case has been made and the argument has been won."
But he said the scheme could "piggy-back" on systems such as satellite positioning equipment already used by drivers with "pay-as-you-go" insurance. He said private firms were trusted more than the government with such information.

Not long now.
Strange how those highlighting these Government plans were denounced as loonies and paranoid crackpots just a few short months ago. Don't hear those comments any more, do we?
Don't forget this will be shortly followed by/closely coupled to Intelligent Speed Adaption.

Yes it is planned to be all over Europe as well. They have been making the digital maps for it.
What makes that idiot think we are happy with the spy cameras etc which are already in place as far as the privacy side of it goes.
I forsee a time in the future when we shall have to ask permission to go to the lavatory!

As an aside,
i now see that if you dont return your electoral role form completed, you can now face a £1000 fine!!!
wtf... since when did this become a legal obligation??
i was under the understanding that if you didnt fil it in, you didnt get a vote simple as that...
to follow up, an article in the local rag from the council saying it was getting tough, and would persue and fine people who failed to fill it in!!!
afaik the only legal form like this was the cencus form, and even that has a loophole for not declaring...
once again NL are starting to control us by stealth
