brought it on himself. he was given the chance of a new life and squandered it by continuing to booze. as above feel for his family and i suppose we will have to endure a load of tribute programmes on tv after he is gone.

Well I still feel sorry for him in a way because alcoholism is a terrible disease to have and can never be cured. It must be more difficult for some to resist than others and he is unlucky in that respect. He seems to be the self destructive type anyway.

Totally agree with some of the above, it's all self inflicted, and they say it was the drugs and not the booze, yeah my ****. It's well known he continued drinking after his op and washing your pills down with booze might prehaps just stopped those drugs having any effect.
Pretty sure most drugs having a warning not to mix with drink, i'm pretty sure any you have to take for a liver transport may have this warning.
Heartless i know but for someone who was so gifted, he just wasted the oppotunity life gave him.

You catch a disease, but alcoholism is self inflicted end of story.
Feel sorry for his family, but he should've been stronger after the first op.

Sorry but being alcoholic is not a "disease", just the same as smoking or being fat is not a disease, always bugs me that.

Should you ever stuff your car into a tree by driving badly kammy, and you are lying there really seriously injured,
Think you'd only do the above once, then you'd hopefully learn to slow down/drive properly... where as Best has had numerous warnings and chances.

you dont go to work and catch a dose of alcoholism, its a self inflicted item, as is smoking,
georgey boy has had ample oppertunitys to save his own life, and abused them,
i feel sorry for his family, and the donor who,s gift has been squandered.

Lots of diseases are self inflicted Dream Weaver and when you have got them it can be almost impossible to cope with them.
Are you saying that we should just let people die rather than do something to help them out when they are in such deep trouble?
What kind of a world would this be if everyone demonstrated such a lack of pity for those who are badly off?

I think the fact that most people object to, is that replacement livers don't come along just like buses.....
He was very publicly given one and has wasted it....
Many are on waiting lists (some alcoholics and some not) and are probably 100% certain that given the chance of live, they wouldn't **** it away....It's those that I feel sorry for
Hope you can see the reason for peoples lack of 'sympathy'...
PS Yes he was a 'football' legend, but not much of a man IMHO, but then, I only met him the once, so don't really know what he is like as a person

Not necessarily Sipie, many people continue to drive like maniacs in spite of previous accidents or convictions of course.
At least what Best was doing was screwing himself rather than risking someone else's life.
What I said to kammy was only intended as an example anyway and I still think it is valid as such.

I think the lack of pity here lies in the fact that there isn't an abundence of livers for those that need transplants - and one was wasted here.
He is a football legend, so is Maradona. ***** can be legends too
Edit: I see Sipie got in there first

Was a fantastic footballer, he always will figure in any sort of football poll, at the time he had it all, but blew it.
In a lot of ways he has had a fantastic life, had more money and seen more of the world than most.
Does it make him more worthy than others though, my understanding (this is limited) is that he was fortunate to get the transplant as other people in the same position couldnt.
My main worry is that George Best's actions will make people consider not donating organs, on the basis that in may be a waste of time.

I agree with you there Les
however...that chance of life (the liver) could of been given to a more worthy case IMHO

I agree with what you say about him getting the liver and of course he deserves criticism for falling of the wagon afterwards and people's attitudes are understandable in that respect of course.
It is one thing having a lack of sympathy but I still don't think that is an excuse for total lack of pity for the guy who is in intensive care and dangerously ill.
If you have ever had to care for an alcoholic, as we have in this family, maybe you would understand the problem and what a terrible thing it is to suffer from it so badly as Best does.

This guy has been helped by some of the top people in the world and also given a new liver but he chose to continue pissing it up so I have no sympathy at all for him.
I feel sorry for his family in a way but speaking from experience I know what a release his death will be for them because eventually they will remember just the good bits and forget about all the heart ache and pain he has put them through by his selfish behaviour
