No but I made the menu covers for them (unless they replaced them with cheap rubbish), and if their food is half as good as the menu covers then it should be **** hot

Everyone I've spoken to says it's just too tacky. (Don't be fooled by the 6 star rubbish, that's just marketing talk)

ive been to the underwater restaurant and the one at the top.

the food is excellent but you wouldnt want to stay there...its too formal and a bit over-the-top.

Much better to stay in on of the sister hotels...Jumeirah beach (too many Brits tho now) or the Mina a salam or the fabulous Al Qasr. (all in the same resort area)

The food in all of these hotels is excellent.
The service is second to none and pisses on virtually every European luxury hotel around.

www.tripadvisor.com

and search for Dubai, will bring up the most popular hotels and comments about them.

The service is second to none and pisses on virtually every European luxury hotel around.
That's when you realise how arrogant the West can be, when they think luxury hotels in the UK are the best, but they would only rank 3-4 star compared to a lot of hotels in Asia/Middle East.

Arrogance has little to do with it. The legal use of slave labour in the East certainly has though.

Rubbish, stay at the any 5 star hotel in Hong Kong, Singapore or Thailand - they aren't slaves.

But I will qualify the arrogance part - I've been out in London with some people in the banking world, British and US and the way they seem to think that Londons hotels are better than anywhere. Then you go there and see the room their friends are staying in, or drink in the guest only bars paying £20 a drink and see the level of service given and it's just atrocious

"Slave labour" is a figure of speech, though to see the carts loaded with Indians who form the largest labour pool in Dubai ferried around you might just form the same opinion.
When labour generally is so very cheap in the East and much of the labour force subscribe to the theory of what good deeds you do on earth dictate your position in eventually in heaven and consequently shun tips, what hope does a Western Hotel Company have in competing in terms of staff ratios and consequent service levels?

BTW All British Hotels are graded by independant bodies such as the AA or Visit Britain
You cannot advertise yourself as such until trading for at least one year and after formal inspection.

If you receive poor service in one place, vote with your feet. There are plenty of decent places in London and elsewhere if you research.

Jumeirah Beach is a good bet in Dubai

I stayed there for a night. It was like a tacky 'Gypsy Rose Lee' fortune telling type front room. Fun though.
