Speak to the American embassy, see if you can book an appointment to go to see them and explain what the offences are and egt it sorted.
Yoyu are likely to have a problem if the offences are
Drug related
Terrorist related
weapons related
Civil unrest related
Fraud/Theif
Peodphile
rapist
Murderer
kidnappping
that sort of thing
Your choices are to be honest and hope for the best but do try to see them
Or lie from the outset and hope you do not get found out.
remember the Americans are 'twitchy' about immigration and such at the moment. I would not want to **** about with them. The best outcome would be being deported or you could end up 'doing time'

If serious about your above comments I would try this one on the 5-0 board.
If going to the Embassy take all the paperwork with you.
I am no expert but robbery and possesion of drugs is not in your favour.

It only a green card thingy that you fill in on the flight over and hand in at immigration. They don't even look at them, just file them away. I wouldn't worry about it.

On the aeroplane you'll be given a card to fill in as part of the US visa waiver scheme. You can just fill it in and decalre 'No' to all the appropriate questions. None of your wifes convictions will be on any US immigration systems. You'd have to be very unlucky to be randomly picked out and held while they contacted UK authorities to check up on you, in fact i've never heard of that happening.

Quoted from http://metrotravel.carnivalcruise.co.uk/terms
"Visas for shore excursions are sometimes required by certain countries. The Company will notify the Passenger of these requirements and it is the Passengers responsibility to obtain the visa at the Passengers cost."
Did they notify you of this? If not you should be entitled to a refund.
If they still won't refund you contact your credit card company and get them to refund it.

No, do you mean Machine readable passports? They've been around for years...it means just that, that the passport is readable by a machine. That system then pulls up any details it has on you...in apples case, none, as they haven't been to the US before or even abroad. His visit and later exit will be logged and if he comes back they can then see that he's visited once before.

If paid by cc, don't they (visa etc) offer a legal advice service for "disputed transactions?"
similarly, travel insurance?
That stinks, I don't see how they have the right to keep the full payment for a cancellation that you could not have known about before. Keep 10 or 20% maybe, but not the lot.
I'd also go to the newspapers and publicise it, though the crim charges won't make you a focus of sympathy.

Assuming it was a conviction for robbery as opposed to a charge, bearing in mind violence or a threat of violence was involved, I doubt the US would be too welcoming.
A glimmer of hope - Does anyone know whether spent convictions count?

aye but for £2500 Id run the risk, after all what are the odds on being caught out. To be fair Id try the honest approach like someone else suggested first but noway would I be writing off 2.5k without a fight, least get the money back from the credit card.
