Sorry, no, both wrong.
Neil Peart of Rush anyone?
Only time in my life I've ever been to a gig and no-one's got up for a pi55 during the drum solo.
Can't really groove all that well - but is unsurpassed as far as technique goes!

Bah!! Bunch of sad amateurs. Check out Ginger Baker on the Cream Live at the Albert Hall film and then see him do it again nearly 40 years later at the reunion concert in the same place earler this year. Amazing.

Just taken a look at Joey and that definitely is not the same bloke. This chap had short hair, was wearing a Ben Sherman shirt and was about as un-goth as is possible.

It's not the best solo ever, but that's still impressive. The stamina and concentration needed is an effort itself! He keeps it going well, better than I could ever do thats for sure.

Can't check Travis's solo out at work. He's not my favourite drummer by any means but I appreciate what he does. His hand speed is very impressive!

The drummers drummer ??????? Neil Peart.
got to see him a few years before he died and he was amazing
He started when he was FOUR years old on Broadway
Neil Peart is not bad but he has admitted to being hopless at maintaining a constant beat for too long hence his slightly rambling style.
Rock drummers not sure Ginger Baker, Mitch Mitchell, John Bonham all contenders

Others of course rely on what the press tells them for their opinions.

I guess we'll just beg to differ, then!
Will agree about that though. Have never seen enough Buddy Rich to appreciate him so will have to take others word that he's the greatest. I was much more interested in the likes of Dave Lombardo, Gene Hoglan, Lars Ulrich, Adrian Erlandsson etc Jazz never was my thing.

Always been impressed by Christoph Doom Schnider (Sp?) of Rammstein. I can't comment on technique etc... but Rammstein's material often alternates between very precise almost military beats and the looser, but faster stuff stuff and he seems to handle both with equal applomb. He's seems quite inventive too: Kleine Lust is the first industrial metal track I've heard with a swing beat! :-) it works very well!
Marillion's Ian Mosely is a very good drummer, another ex-stage show performer.
Used to think Clive Burr from Iron Maiden was very talented (listen to the original "Run to the Hills track" and his replacement Nicko McBrain seems very solid.
