Default Flood insurance claim

Long story short - we had a leak, got a plumber round to fix it and basically he flooded the downstairs loo, hallway and 50% of the living room. He has accepted liabilty and we have the assessors coming tomorrow to inspect the damage. Its quite clear we need the whole of the loo decorated and new carpet everywhere, but what else can we say so we can maximise the claim? - e.g stress of living in flood damaged house??

Claim for what has been damaged or is unsalvagable, that's it, anything else is fraud.

Prat!

You are the sort of greedy idiot who is putting up insurance premiums for those who remain honest.

I dont want to take the p**s, but surely there should be some compensation for living with no carpet in the hall and toilet and half my living room carpet soaked (still not dry after 4 days) and the smell????

hmm not at all, i am honest, i have never claimed on any insurance ever in my life!!!. I just wanted any advice on whether i could claim for stuff which is not directly to do with what got soaked - e.g. trying to lead a normal life with a 6 month old baby with half of my downstatirs out of action!!!

so no, i'm not greedy or a prat!!! Thanks for your constructive comments anyway

If the living room carpet is wet, then claim for the hire of carpet cleaning kit to wash and dry it.

Also consider that if the plumber is putting in the claim against his insurance, he will no doubt want to keep it to a minimum and may not be prepared to put through such things.

If the situation is "that bad" then you should have moved in to a hotel while it is being fixed and then claim that back. Living through it but trying to get cash back smacks of freeloading.

You can only claim for the damage caused through the plumbers negligence, you can ask for inconvenience to be considered however it is only a small head of claim and worth £10-20/day imo.

If you had moved into a hotel and tried to claim the costs back then the insurers dealing with it are entitled to ask you to prove that your house was uninhabitable at the time.

If I were dealing with it i would also be having as much damage reinstated as possible and making deductions for the age of the damaged items that were being replaced.

Best thing you could do is put it into the hands of your own insurers or speak to your sols.

Cocker

You have to admit that that remark of yours gives the lie to your protestations.

Even if it was a bit strong to call you a prat. My apologies for that.

Apology accepted

Perhaps my wording of what my question was could of been more clear. I'm in not in the business of trying to rip anybody off, its just i want my house back to normal without any cost to me and i believe that i should also be compensated for the inconvienience of living in a state of disarray for what could be weeks all depending on how long the insurance takes to sort out

Depends on your building and contents policy....is it a replacement policy(new for old) or isit an indemnity policy (which basically means the insurer have to put you back in the position you were in before the accident).

The insurer i work for would nearly always try and replace your carpets via one of their approved suppliers, same with your bathroom suite etc.. stops any dishonest toerag claiming more than they should be...know what i mean?

If the policy is an indemnity policy they will knock of a percentage for the age and condition of your items aswell...thus leaving you with less than you are expecting.

Assessors will know you are trying to pull a fast one if they've got anything about them anyway.

Gav.

Your insurance company will sort it all out and then claim from the plumbers insurance co.

Stress etc is an uninsured loss and you will have to seek address through your legal cover.
