(forgetting the good friday agreement) when they released dozens of killers back onto the streets. some of them having only spent weeks in prison

Spot on Olly. The New Labour M.O. Say one thing and do another.
This is sheer lunacy and shows just how wooly thinking has overtaken the decision makers in this country. I guess the radical will not be welcome in Iran because of changes that may have taken place but that is where he came from and that is where he should be sent back when his sentence is served. What happens to him there is his problem brought on by his own actions.
How bizarre that someone can come to the UK, be involved in an armed siege, hostage taking and murder, jailed for years at our expense and then our government would contemplate changing his identity and giving him shelter, again at considerable expense. What planet are these people on.
The pitty is that if the guy was lucky not to be had IDd until it was too late.
