US Embassy NOT paying congestion charge.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/4352520.stm
Seems they object because they see it as a tax. This one's likely to run and run....
Any legal beagles out there with the facts?

The BBC need a new calculator!
I make it £15,000 a day
the embassy has 100 registered cars
Fines can reach £150 per car, per day for payments due for more than 28 days, which could mean fines of up to £150,000 a day.

On the other hand we could have a good old ScoobyNet "Ken is a tosser"
Or maybe a "I Blame Tony Blair / George W Bush"
Decisions Decisions .
I suspect they wont pay and Ken will have to lick more wounds !

From February 2007, the zone will be extended to include parts of west London.

sounds like typical us stuff.
heard few days ago that £3million quids worth (300,000 food ration packs) of aid was never distributed during the flooding problems because they contained beef. and the us still thinks bse might be a problem.
what a bunch of muppets.

Given the legal status of embassies the US (and others) could probably claim that they were being put under seige by Red Ken and declare war on him - Just hope GW Bush isn't reading this

It is interesting that you and i have paid for the road infrastructure over the years and now that Ken wants to introduce this charge because cars are "socially divisive" the Americans are the only people with the guts to stand up against him! Perhaps we need to import a few more American drivers into the UK so that more people stand up to the disgraceful treatment being handed down to drivers. I don't think the Tories would be much better either as their policies pretty much mirror those of Ken and it was John Major who signed the Copenhagen Declaration which asserted that cars were a bad thing and that everything possible must be done to force the citizens out of private vehicles.

He reckons that he'll clamp their cars. I'd love to see some clamping firm breaching the US Embassy's security (Which has seen surrounding roads altered, no doubt with the premission of the above fu*kwit) and stick a clamp on without getting shot at
As much as I think the Germans want to run the world and the yanks just arn't clever enough to do it... Good on 'em.

USA= Bullies, so they'll do as they please and fukc the "special relationship", which only ever works their way anyway
What would really please me and make me laugh would be if EVERY company, embassy, etc hit by the congestion charge, pulled out of London, and set up in Birmingham, or Manchester.
Then we'd hear the fekkin southerners squeak

The French refused to pay on July 31st too, along with the Germans; but the cheese-eating surrender monkeys had paid up by August the third!
