Default Advise on visiting Iceland?

Hi thinking about going to Iceland for a short break on my birthday in mid November.
Has anybody been before, would like advise on where to stay, what to see etc etc.
Is it really as expensive as people say it is?

Cheers

Paul

I have been using Sainsbury's they are running an interesting in-store promotion at the mo

Visit the toilet and get a free handgun. Not all stores - Beds and Herts only i understand

Never been to Iceland, there was aprorgramme on about it in Nat geo or such about thier off-roading and stuff. It looked fun.

Take warm clothes!

Have you done a search? I think there have been 3 or 4 threads in NSR in the last few years about it. Definitely on my list of places to go.

So far round here they've only got Lidl. TAXI!

Never been, but would love to go. There's tons to be found on the interweb. A few M8's of mine went a couple of years ago : the scenery is absolutely stunning and the natives really friendly. Don't bother your ar$e trying to learn Icelandic, it's like no other language. Just do the usual "Please & Thank-You" crap.

Detox or save before you go, alcohol is MEGA expensive. Fiver a pint when they went. Forget spirits unless you're loaded or have a low tolerance.

Learn to fish, not too sure about the seasons though, might just be sea-fishing at this time of year, but something else to do.

Post photo's pls if you go.

Ahhhh - That's what Brennivin is for! It's their local spirit (schnapps) and the name translates to "The Black Death". Doesn't really matter what kind of tolerance you have when you're drinking this stuff - it's like drinking lava!

So if you can't afford the 600ISK for a pint of Viking (Mmm), buy a shot of this stuff and that'll last you the evening.

Goes down nicely with a bit of rotten shark... Seriously... If you have the stomach for it...

it is REALLY expensive, hows £18 for a toasted cheese and ham sandwich sound?

Luckily I was on a all expenses paid trip with work. 1 thing i would suggest is having it all organised before you go, we went, 4x4 driving around iceland, blue lagoon, skidooing and to see the geizers..

after that theres not much else to see.

Its a great place though and probably the best weekend I've ever had. We stayed in Reykjavik
