Default buying off Ebay question....

Did my first bid this evening and won!!!
It was a Dutch Auction so no Auto bidding... so how come the other winning bid had the same Bid as me? (£305.01)

I went to pay via the myEbay section and clicked PayPal payment... filled out the form/password etc as never done it before.. entered CC details and it was rejected... was this cus i'd not done PayPal before?

Checked Emails and had the email from the seller giving details of how to pay etc.
3 options... 1 PayPal 2 Bank Wire 3 Cheque or bank draft.
he says Bank draft or cheque would be better.
so sending a Cheque registered post tomorrow. will that be safe???

the sell is a Power Seller with 99.1% POSSITIVE FEED BACK.

does that mean anything?

ta

Exclamation

99.1 is good feedback so that means so far he has been an honest trader.
Cheque should be perfectly safe, for the seller paypal has fee's so i usually prefer a cheque when selling items over £100.

Credit card on Paypal gives you protection, a cheque gives you no protection. High feedback precentage is good, but always read the neg feedback, ignore the positive comments.

Phil, if you are a first time Paypal user, you have to go through their verification process before you can do any substantial transaction through them. What they'll do is to do a small debit to your credit card account, when you receive your statement, you fill in the reference code for that charge and you are then verified, i.e. your card number and address are genuine. The amount they debited to your card will be given back as a credit to your Paypal account, so there is no cost to the exercise.

that is not strictly true , ie you can use up to £500 on your account without having to verify membership ! as soon as you reach that limit then you have to verify your account .

Paypal is ****, but do you really need a mower like that for 5 x 10? - I have a 28" mountfield self propelled that munches the lawn - (240' x 60') in about 2 hours - I would think that a pair of nail clippers would sort your lawn in 20 minutes....

For a 5x10 lawn, you are better off getting one of those robo-lawnmower. With the money saved, can upgrade your water bed to full specs.

You are probably right, cos I am only talking from my experience with using Paypal from my country. Originally, the country wasn't even on the list of accepted members and there are still sellers who specifically mention they won't ship to the country because of the high incidence of fraud.
