RAF Fairford - What's Going On?
Afternoon,
There seems to be a lot of B-1Bs roaring around the skies here today and lots of them getting juiced and armed up.
Does anyone know what's going on?
I've looked on the BBC News website and can't find anything relevant... Unless of course GWB has decided that now the IRA have got rid of all the weapons, Northern Ireland is there for the taking...

The only Planes using Fairford at the moment are Tristars, VC10's, C17's, and chartered 757's and A320's. Trust me. I'm in the know!
And considering that B1's have been rellogated to the Air National Guard and off the combat Aircraft List and in the process of being retired.

The only other aircraft that use Fairford on a regular basis are B52's, but it ain't there as the RAF has taken Fairford back from the USAF till next year!

Sorry...
Having been invited on to the base a couple of year ago (press pass accompanying a member of staff from the local rag) while the B-1Bs were stationed there, I've probably got closer to a B-1B than a lot of other people here! (apart maybe from Cyprus who seems to think otherwise).
I'm based in Cirencester but was in Kempsford all day yesterday and if the B-1Bs that I SAW with my own two eyes wern't taking off from Fairford, the local farmers have obviously had enough of the noise and decided to splash out on one of their own...
Still - you're probably right, so it's a good job I was in Kempsford taking photos of a friend's car and had my camera handy - perhaps can you identify the planes I saw?
Cheers!

Isn't Iran due for some carpet bombing???
They cannot be allowed to manufacture Nuclear material ..... a few installations to be removed from the bargaining table???
Maybe, they are allowing Israeli pilots to test-drive them over the middle-east - fully armed, of course - "Don't push that button Sir!! .... ooooops, now look what you appear to have done!"

Mad.. after some scrutiny and close examination.. I can only agree that that is a B1
(BTW.. I've also guarded and had the privilege of working on some specialist comms equipment for the B1..which entailed a fairly detailed examination of the fuselage.. You weren't there were you? )

Lol, deffo a B1-B.
I live just up the road so if I get chance I'll go and have a gander over the fence, though I've not seen any flying around north Swindon area so far.
The RAF are also using Fairford at the moment, that's for sure. But I guess the USAF or ANG have a few B1's there too.

I'm sure that Tony Blair, the Queen and Prince Charles will also confirm that politically and diplomatically, it is NOT a B1, nope, not at all. It doesn't resemble a B1. They've seen one, cleaned one and flown one so they know what they're talking about.
Nothing specifically to do with Iran either. Why would we have any concerns about having a foreign power whose on the verge of gaining a nuclear capability meddling and b*ggering up our attempts at growing a genuine and balanced democracy next door.
Having written that I'm worried now. Thank fsck that Iran hasn't got pacts and alliances with any major players in the region or we could be looking at a major war. Serbian interference in the Austro-Hungarian empire resulted in WW1.
