Default Need a courier to ship a 40kg front door - no-one seems to do it

Searched this forum for links to large-item-friendly couriers.......

Have a 1930's front door sitting in Manchester that I need to get to Edinburgh. It is 205cm long and about 40kg. Only cost £35 and needs stripped anyway, so not bothered about it getting bashed about a bit.

Usual issues - "account holders only" or "nah, we don't do that sort of thing".

Phoned InterParcel on Friday and they said they would, so phone back today with details, and they now say they don't.

Anyone help?

Thanks for the suggestion....phoned them, and they won't do "one-offs".

Have a look in you local yellow pages for hauliers that offer a national service. Ask if they can backload the door for you and offer to pay them COD.

God knows how much my TV weighed but it was over 40kgs and Amtrak delivered it to my front door.

Although I didn't appreciate its lateness of 3 days (bank holiday week ) or the box reeking of *** ash

Yeah...looked at the website, and it says nothing longer than 1.5m in length (the door is 2.05m).

You'd think this was easy........

on their site if you put in all the dimensions and weight of the parcel it comes back with Interparcel Titan option for dimensions upto

300cm height
150cm width
150cm length
1000kg weight

Yep....seen that myself, but the lady today said that a door was not something they could carry and I should try a removal company!!

I'll probably phone them again tmmrw and probe further, as I don't see the issue.

Forget all the overnight stuff...

Contact "Dode" (as in Al Fayed) at Pronto in either Inverness or Aberdeen (I think)

They move shedloads around the UK/Europe and always up for a wee deal as they have empties returning up north.

My name don't mean blah but you could say recommended by an NCA member.

Unfortunately, new ones don't have the style or kudos that this 80 year old door does.......

I did think about this - the local city couriers....used to work for one as a cycle courier here in Edinburgh when at Uni (Citadel) and I know they often have chaps going up/down the M6....

However, it's the other end that is tricky...how do I get a NCA type person to go to a given address in Manchester, and how pricey would it be...

We'll see. Thanks for the tips.

Just FYI to close off the thread....

Used Interparcel in the end with their Titan service. Door was wrapped in bubble wrap and they shipped it for £34+vat (40kg, 205cm x 89cm).It was actually TNT who shipped it (who if you go through the TNT website charge £110+vat!).

Only thing is that they managed to smash the leaded glass in the window in transit...ho-hum.
