Default Using veggi oil in your diesel, CH4 prog last night

It was on that program where the fat bird goes round telling the family to reduce their carbon emmisions by walking and cycle more (maybe she should take her own advise).
In the second half of the prog she told the Dad of the family to get his campervan converted to run on veggi oil as well as diesel, which he did and later went to the chippy to get the old fat. They then told you how to treat the old oil so that he coudl use it in his van.

Now is it me or was this a big thing recently with the fuzz stopping people doing this?

I think as long as you pay fuel duty on the oil, you are OK!

Been at it for years with the TDI Leon, didn't see the show mentioned, but turfing in 60 litres of spent crisp and dry is not the way to do it.

Needs to be filtered, washed and chemically reacted to make a god quality bio-fuel. Oh and make sure HMC&E get their cut - not the sort of people you can afford to upset!!

do a forum search for biodiesel on www.honestjohn.co.uk trialled and commented on at length by forum members.

You can run some cars on SVO but Rapeseed Methyl Ester is better, it perishes all of your soft fuel pipes though.....

You realse that old diesels will happily run on new veg oil with no modification...and it's a lot cheaper than 90p a litre

Some old diesels will, if they have a Bosch type diesel pump. SVO will destroy a Lucas type pump. Nothing will run SVO unmodified in the winter. This subject has been discussed at length on ScoobyNet.

Don't try to use diesel instead of vegetable oil though - it'll make your cooking taste awful.

Is that my coat....?

ASDA certainly had the cheapest vegetable oil, they were at the centre of the scandal in Wales.

Yes, though oddly it works out cheaper to buy 1L bottles than the 5L or 20L drums.

My mate has used it for ages mixed 50/50 with diesel in his Landy.
